Issue with driver's window

Hey all,

I just thought I'd post up that I've got a bit of a problem with my E86 Coupe. I've only owned the car a couple of months :(

The window on the drivers side seemed a little laboured but doesn't seem to go all the way up, even when the door is open (by around 1cm).

When you try to auto close the window, it hits the top, thinks that something is in the way and then opens the window again. You can close the window (just about!) by closing the window bit by bit, trying not to go to far into auto mode.

So I hunted around a bit for information and came upon this forum. I attempted to try and use the reset tricks and about a couple of minutes into playing with the window, it made a rather ominous crunch noise and now it's completely dead. I can move the window up and down by hand! Bad times...

I'm going to try sorting this out on BMW Approve Warranty to see what happens. Hopefully there'll be no problem with the cover.

I'll report back with the fix, just in case anyone has the same problem and isn't covered by warranty.

Just to confirm for completeness. The driver's side motor and regulator was replaced today and the problem is now fixed. Cheers to all who contributed.

Glad its sorted :) can we ask how much ? (even though warranty may have covered it )

Glad you got sorted, hopefully on the warranty. I had a similar issue on my 1 within 6 months of being brand new! Wouldn't go all the way up sometimes but sorted under warranty obviously

I actually don't know as I wasn't given any receipts or documentation! It was covered under AUC warranty so I guess there was no need to give me anything.

However, BMW were missing some insulation so the car has got to go back in to complete the job! I'll remember to ask.

I'm using BMW Sytner Birmingham for the work and have been very impressed so far.

Finally, when the car goes back in I'm having the security update done to try to protect against theft from cloning of remote central locking. Anyone else had this done? Again, I'll try to obtain a cost.
