Issue with AUX input with aftermarket AUX Cable

Hello, new to the forum, this is my first post, I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue I've been having with the aux input on my radio (Stock Business Radio on 2006 Z4 3.0si) I installed an aftermarket aux cable, and the issue I've been having is as follows: The "AUX" input mode shows up on the radio display, but once I plug a 3.5mm cable into the female adapter on the end of the cable I installed, the "AUX" input option disappears and it reverts to FM radio. It doesn't matter if a phone, MP3 Player, or anything else is plugged into the other end of the 3.5mm cable, even if the cable is not connected to anything on the other end.

Any help appreciated

Have you tried another 3.5mm cable?

If you don't have another one you could try testing the cable with a multimeter to make sure its functioning correctly.

How’s your aux cable mounted? If it’s flush against some plate/trim, I bet it’s a loose connection that moves around every time you plug something in.

I have an 06 and installed the OEM adapter to back of radio but I did not buy the Z4 specific one as that’s more expensive since it includes the ashtray piece. I simply routed the cable to glovebox and installed a Bluetooth adapter. BT adapter powers on with ignition and auto connects to my phone. No more messing with wires and frankly it’s a cleaner install.

And fwiw if you bought one of those generic cheap made in China adapters, those can be really hit or miss.

If you have no luck with the above, save your time and just get this

Many of the chinese cables aren't wired correctly for the z4, this guy makes them bespoke and are guaranteed to work.

This is also a great option if you want bluetooth and you have the cd changer loom in the boot
