The longterm future is a scary one & unlikely to be resolved overnight , i suspect the sporadic carnage will continue & we will comment & tolerate in much the same we did with IRA murders .

I am inclined to agree with you buddy having observed what has ensued since and investigating the issue beyond media reporting.
As this thread makes apparent there are manifold opinions / viewpoints garnered from personal life experience with I hope a desire to seek the truth and better understanding of a matter.
I strongly believe that discussion is the key and can only be positive as long as we keep focused on the salient. I understand topics the like of this can become emotive however extending respect and advancing your point keeping an open mind is paramount.
I note there are contributors who have taken time to try and gain a better understanding of the link between Islam and the shocking acts of violence that are taking place both here and around the world.
I am posting specifically to say that I welcome any questions regarding Islam and without wishing to undermine anyone's efforts.
I believe that this religion is the most ' practised daily ' without true understanding by it's adherents than you could imagine.
The Quran cannot be understood by simply reading it...why ?
It's a book of some 800 pages revealed over 23 years and must be read in CONTEXT of events throughout those years. A book which remains unchanged from it's original verbatim text over the course of some 1436 years.
I will say in my opinion 90% of Muslims today have no clue what they are actually saying in their 5 daily prayers let alone understand this amazing scripture which believe it or not is relevant even in 2015.
I blame myself and the Muslims in the West ( my home ) for peoples lack of knowledge about something claimed to be so dear to them.
Communication is a loss of great magnitude and I fear it's a chronic of our time irrespective of where you are in the world and is in no small way responsible for much mistrust.

There are some very good points made here. I'm in no doubt the west (ie the USA and everybody that hangs off their coattails and that includes our spineless government :roll: ), finds it advantageous to have the muslim world at odds with itself and are prepared to suck up some collateral damage, as sickening as that prospect is to me personally, and try too keep the issues at arms length. The problem tho is that it's not at arms length, it's right here amongst us, festering away like the cancer that it undoubtedly is.
I don't think the IRA analogy is a very good one tho other than they were/are a bunch of fanatical murdering terrorists as are ISIS. The reasons, politics and history behind that conflict are totally different, that's another discussion topic that I'm not going to pursue on here.
