Slight whistle on light acceleration do u reckon this is the cause and should I be replacing this .checked the air pipe below which is the normal one to leak and he looks ok
There is about 5-7mm free play when returned to closed not my video or valve but same amount of play

5-7mm of free play sounds like a lot to me. Probably worth servicing/replacing it as that is a lot cheaper than an engine overhaul! :o

I'd replace it, my 3.0 was similar but the metal fixing on the end was also floating out a bit.

Was quieter on idle once replaced with one which didn't wobble :)

Thanks for the replies , I have a little pop and bang on overrun is this likely to cause it , it don't rattle and seems to idle ok , replace or a repair kit anyone done that ?
Cheers rog

I recently had a rattle from my DISA valve and ended up going to a company via Ebay who sold and Aluminium upgrade kit which was and easy DIY job. The company are on Barnsley Road, under Junc34 of the M1 and called i6 Automotive follow this link:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-DISA-Valve-Intake-Adjuster-Unit-Aluminium-Rebuild-Upgrade-11617544805-/160984813142?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item257b714e56

I went directly to them and got the kit for £40 and the difference is like chalk n cheese. Before I only ever noticed a difference with the Sport button pressed now its loads better more low down torque and without the Sport its rapid, with the Sport button its mental and thats my wife quoting.

Any issues let me know and much better than the £198 I was quoted by Sopers with discount for a brand new unit but with the same crap nylon setup

Hi scousefly
Did you fit it yourself , looking at the video it doesnt look to bad I suppose its got to be worth a punt at that price I have a 2.5 so it's a bit shorter I believe , I have been looking out for a secondhand one but I suppose I could be in the same boat after a short while!
:(

I just had my disa of the other day and it had a similar amount of play in it but i didnt think it was a problem as the pin seemed secure and i couldnt see any damage. I was also trying to get to the bottom of a whistling noise coming form the engine bay at about 15% acceleration. I read on some forum to clean the ICR valve which is located directly below the disa and this almost completely iradicated the whistle.
 worth a try

Yep did it myself took about an hour to clean it like I wanted it, everything looked fine when I had it apart but the parts are so lame on the original its insane not to upgrade, plus theres a step by step guide under germanautosolutions.com which was fantastic and what I used.
i6 autosolutions have a different kit for differnet models so mke sure you specify the engine size so you get the right one.

Must admit I had the whistling noise as well which is why I started to do some surfing and I came across this thinking why the hell not may as well try it. Must admit it never stopped the whistling although its a lot quieter so not a nagging thing for me to fix or look into. To be honest ive not modded anything on the car apart from this but now ive done it with some great results I have a few other things I want to do.

New Wheels - end of the month a pay bonus treat.

Anybody else tried the i6 Kit?

Tempted as I had my DISA out the other day and the play was slightly more than I would have liked.

Thanks again for responses the kit is looking a good option I suppose if I bugger it up fitting I will have to get a new one ,as fearless said anyone else tried the kit ,I suppose I would rather do during winter as car is laid up then but know I should sort ASAP :o

Can you please tell me how you got the kit for £40 ?

Do they give a discount if you phone and did it include postage ?

Thanks

Rob I think he lives buy them in Sheffield probably collected , thought I saw somewhere in a post that they will take 45 quid on eBay make a offer so that's worth a try  if u do let me know how u get on
Cheers rog

Was looking at doing mine when winter sets in so I have no rush as its a summer drive , if I try and strip it and goes pear shaped it won't be such a pain !
Cheers rog

Yes I live about 20 mins from them so collection was what I did. I spoke to them in the morning and they mentioned about £78 but I then pointed him to his eBay advert so to be honest I expected to pay the eBay price so obviously a result when he said he could do me it for £40.

To be honest even at the eBay price it's almost a quarter the price of a replacement part with the same crap internal components
