Is this the dreaded window regulator...

Not having a great day today with the zed... battery is showing it needs replacement so after a quick charge I decided to take it for a drive to see if the indicator would go green again.

Upon lowering the roof the drivers side window made a horrible glassy, metallic scrunching noise when it dropped half way down

The window will go up and down with some reluctance but I dare not lower it too far as it sounds like the mechanicals inside the door are buggered. Up until now it has been fine, my only clue to impending doom was perhaps a little bit of a pinging sound when you lowered the window all the way down to the bottom.

Does anybody know the best way to get this fixed or how much a main dealer will sting me for. I have read the various door card removal guides and don't feel confident to tackle it myself - assuming from the description the window regulator has/is about to fail. :headbang: So much for german build quality

Yes, it sounds like the regulator. I have had both go in mine. Don't keep trying the window or you may burn the motor out which is more cost. The part IIRC is about £120 from the dealer. Second hand between £60 - £80 so might as well put the new one on.
Try and find an independant garage to change it if you don't fancy it yourself.
Costs about £40 compared to £110 at the dealer for fitment.

It may only be the clips sounds the same as mine just needed to replace these see Ebay item 300403651410 simple job to replace and will only cost you a fiver inc postage

Had the problem fixed today at the local stealer - £350 lighter in the wallet for the priviledge but now have a very zippy and smooth window :)

They don't make em like they used to - not suprising considering the after sales servicing and repairs must make up a sizable proportion of the dealers income.

Exaxt same thing happeend to me this weekend :(

Like a bang then glass scratching sound..

Everythings going wrong with this Z4...My E36 Had almost twice the miles and twice the age,The only problem it had in 3 years was the one touch didn't work due too the rubber's been dirty and me being to lazy to clean them....

Are the door cards hard to get off guys?
