Hi Guys
Just purchased a 2004 E85 as part of my mid life crisis (wife's wordss not mine) and I have an issue with the alarm going off a few seconds after locking the car (quite a common issue after looking on here). Ive done some testing with INPA and its showing my Hood is open - (that one I know of) but its showing rear window open - is this an error / sensor gone bad or is this the default state of that sensor as the roof opens and closes without any errors or flashing lights, but sensor does not change state.
If this is a broken sensor, where would the sensor be and does it need to be active for the roof to work (as in could I just unplug it until i can source an other one)
thanks in advance error.jpg

Cannot honestly answer I'm afraid, but I think I would start by disconnecting the sensor at the rear centre of the engine bay and see if that fixes it.
@colb is very close to you (Newport?) and he has far cleverer software tools than me.

@enuff_zed - cheers, looking at it logically I cant see why it would be open (on) - but you never know and just looking for a point in the right direction regards to where it sits

The roof positions are monitored by Hall sensors and a switch that is operated by the peg on the rear parcel shelf, maybe the Hall sensor at the top of the windscreen cowl is duff?
Extract from BMW TIS shows details of the Hall sensors here

Hall sensors

In order to detect the convertible top position and the two final positions of the locking mechanism, non-contact switches (Hall sensors) are used. The Hall sensors for identification of the convertible top position are fitted on the right-hand main convertible top bearing. The Hall sensors for the cowl panel lock are located on the cowl panel lock in the front convertible top bow strut. The information from the Hall sensors is processed in the convertible top module IV (CVM IV).

If your interested we have a Zedshed Cymru Enthusiasts Whats App Group here in South Wales members buy the parts etc and jobs get done at my home garage as it has a lift. Members make a donation towards shed running costs I don't charge for my time. We cater for Z3 and Z4's, quite a few members around Bridgend. One of our members also breaks Z4's and is located near you to source spares if you need them.
If you want to join us PM me your phone number and I will add you into the Group.

Cheers Colb! I've got some spare time tomorrow so I'll have a dig about and hopefully get to the bottom of the alarm issue.
As for the invite to the Zedshed Cymru - I'd love to be added to the group, I'll PM you my number accross

Sent you a direct message with my number
