Is this reasonable servicing cost?

I've used http://www.auto-technik.co.uk before albeit for rear brakes - very helpful and better value than dealer prices but would go to them again for any future services. They're are a BMW specialist based near Leicester/Rugby :)

My best friend is a motor mechanic, history worked at jag and BMW.....

Servicing can be done with any qualified mechanic, and does not affect your warranty, as long as your book is stamped.

He has been very open with me, probably because I've known him so long, and yes I will probably get my z4 serviced for nothing and he goes a step further.

He has serviced my cars in the past and I have never paid more than £125 for a full major service. I know this z4 will be more but not too much.

He is a mobile mechanic and its quite good, because you see him do the work, and all the parts he uses. He has told me really scary stories what people have been quoted.

I looked at my old tyres they were £240 each from a well known place I asked him he got me the identical ones for £87.00 I was amazed

Grissom... The warranty element, is true if this is within the first three years.. after that its insured/extended warranty and a condition is that you MUST use a dealer to service the cars.

Maniac

Thanks for the clarification, however that is surly the policy that you are signing within the conditions, I'm thinking of extending my warranty on my z4, so I will most certainly look at this closely, and probably get them to justify the clause.

Grissom

I have booked my car in for a Inspection 1 service next week with an independent in Glasgow:
http://www.prestigecarspecialists.com/car-servicing/bmw-servicing/

The price is £120 inc. the oil change, which I think is very reasonable.

My car is now just outside of warranty, but the folk at the independent say that going to them will not affect the 'full service history'.

I don't think I will even bother negotiating on the price. The only dealership here in Aberdeen is John Clark and the nearest one in Dundee is also owned by John Clark so I doubt I can beat them down on the price....

I have asked whether I can provide my own oil and plugs and the service rep said that should be fine as long as it's BMW approved.

I ordered Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 oil and 6 x Bosch spark plugs for £112 all up.
Still costs less than what the dealer charges for the oil alone. LOL
What a rip off.

Mine is booked in the week after next for MOT and 4 year service (15,500 miles). Do they really replace the spark plugs after 4 years? Looked back at what I paid 2 years ago, and it was £269 !!

Yep 2 yrs is around £300 and double that at year 4.

I've had my quote, with discount.. £582.82 inc vat

Plugs £120.85
Brake fluid £62.67
Bolt (?) £3.18
Service scope (?) £17.86
Oil (inc environmental charge) £153.09
Air filter £30.17
Micro filter £41.82
Vehicle Check £53.58 (I have no idea but iDrive itemised it)

Compared to what the M guys pay, it's a bargain! (Relatively)

The other half just had a major service on the Toyota IQ ... £120!

If you wanna play, you gotta pay...

Just a quick update on my servicing, which is being done today.
I provided my own oil and spark plugs and to my surprise the servicing charge was much lower than the estimate they provided after excluding the charge for oil and plugs.

It came in at £332 so all up it's costing me about $430, which isn't too bad I think. Much better than the £630 estimate they gave me few weeks ago.

I got mine done today (4 years old):

MOT
Engine oil (plus disposal)
Microfilter
Brake fluid
Air filter
Spark plugs
Service check

total was a few pennies under £500

Pleased with that, and its running as sweet as a nut. :D

I find it interesting that at the 2 and 4 year services a brake fluid change is quoted. On interrogating my car's servicing information it tells me that the brake fluid change is only necessary after 3 years!
