Is this normal?

Being an engineer I never read instruction manuals so I might have missed the obvious BUT...my headlight washers don't wash when I'm stationary but do operate when the car is being driven????? Is that normal or weird???? Or just German efficiency...... :tumbleweed:

There's all sorts of conditions tied to headlight washers. Only every Xth squirt. Only when the headlights are on. I can imagine only when moving being in there too (although it would be an addition over older platforms.) If they were being clever they'd add "only when it hasn't used all of the bloody fluid yet again."

Thanks Scott, that's crazy l had no idea?.....thinking about it my headlights were on when I was driving and they "worked ", funny thing is my wife's e89 washes the headlights whenever the windscreen is washed.....

It's all a good thing as the rate of fluid use is crazy. I disabled my X5 ones because when I occasionally drove it, it would immediately bong Fluid Low. I would then pull faces and be well assured that it wasn't being ignored and had been filled up only days previous and, while I'm here, could I just check the tyres and listen to a random noise.

I disconnected them some months ago and, either the maintenance routine has been upped(!) or the fluid use has gone right down!

That figures....I'm refilling the wife e89 on a regular basis.....( she's very fussy, a single bug splodge on the windscreen is meet with a immediate deluge of fluid and wiper activity  )
