Is this factory fitted?

Maybe it could be used to safely and discretely secure your spare keys… you go for a drive, park up, lock the car, take a walk, stop for a coffee, bit of sight-seeing, come back to the car, can’t find the keys!! Don’t worry, as you’ve… oh, hang on…. can I get back to you…?

I had one in my last zed and was told it was a holder for your phone if you didn't have the more expensive snap in connector

Well that won't work since the armrest locks when you lock the car! Anyhow my 2009 30i with storage pack has one!

I have the pouch AND the snap in phone connector, both useless

This is my 3rd E89 and I'd hazard a guess the installation of the iPod pouch is related to this option - S06FL USB-audio interface. Both cars I've had with the pouch had this and the other didn't.

I guess back in the day before streaming via the mobile there wasn't much to compete with the iPod.

I've used it previously to hold my Alexa Auto but having removed the redundant phone cradle and replaced it with the mat I now have an Aux Bluetooth device which is a bit cleaner so the pouch is now redundant - being to small to house my phone.

The iPod pouch was in connection with the additional iPod package offered from the factory, it is nothing to do with the Extra Storage pack which was offered as well.

* The Storage Package consisted of passenger footwell net, seat back nets, clothes hook on the roll bar and lashing starps in the boot. There is also the addition of the partition storage compartment (shelves) in the through-load opening, which meant that you had to also spec for the Through Loading System (ski hatch) separately, but this could be opted for without the addition of the Storage Pack.

Interesting. Mine must have the storage pac. Never knew it was an option, in fact I thought all of the E89s at least had the net behind the seats.
A concerted effort was made to provide a good amount of convenience by the designers. When I was an avid skier I would have appreciated the ability to keep the skis inside the car, avoiding road salt on the metal edges and bindings while on an outside ski rack. ( Not sure I would take a E89 on a ski trip now though with all the salty mush being dragged onto the floor.} Has anyone here ever used this feature or used the shelves that go in the access port? It was an attempt to provide some additional storage access within the cockpit but it required a lot of contortions to get at it. They also thought we needed supernumerary cup holders in the apparent belief that we drive around drinking hot coffee. Mine has four of them?
I remember when a sports roadster had 4 speeds, 3 pedals, an open glove box, no A/C and an add on AM radio hung under the dash. It did have disc brakes radial tires (if it came with Michelin or Pirellis). The heater was a little fan blowing a breath of slightly warmer air. It was a wonderful era , thanks mostly to the Brits. But I digress

I knew we would get to the bottom of it. At least now I know it’s a factory fitted accessory and will leave it in. Has anybody now got any idea what the straps are for in the boot of my car I put in a previous post….
