Is this factory fitted?

Found this today under the armrest. Is it factory fitted or stuck in by one of the last owners. If factory fitted what’s supposed to go in it?

Looks about the right size for a packet of cigarettes so might be part of the smokers package ha ha. If you have one too must be a factory fit thing then.

It’s iPod holder… c’mon, there can’t be that much ‘yoof’ on here. Mine holds my iPod classic 80GB, plugs in via the BMW adapter system and plays back perfectly via the I drive all my 80s and 90s magic

Weird how some cars have it and some don’t. Doesn’t seem year or model makes a difference. Pretty certain my old 2009 3.5i didn’t have it either or I’d have seen it. My friend who I sold it to still has the car it so I’ll be checking it when I see him next. I have the sales brochure for 2009 and 2013 cars (easily downloadable in PDF form)and none of them have this item as part of a package like smokers or storage and it’s not mentioned in the 2013 car handbook/user guide either.
