Is this a good deal? - NOW PURCHASED!!!!!

EDIT: Long and complicated details of my new purchase in post 14

EDIT: new target details in post 9.

Going to look at this AUC tomorrow:

2.5 SE Roadster
53 plate
25k miles
Stirling Grey / Heated black leather
18" alloys
Xenons
CD changer & Business speakers
PDC, cruise, and a few other options

£12k asking price - I'll haggle :D

Any comments?

TIA

12k sounds a little steep for a 2003 model. Spec sounds ok but for that price I would expect an upgraded stereo. Try get him down to under 10k

Be wary of the low mileage, check to see if it an accident repair job.

Good luck

It's AUC so shouldn't be a repair job, one owner apparently, having its Inspection 1 today.

Mileage is a bonus as it's likely to be well used for the next 18 months or so, so it'll go back as as an average mileage car

Well that didn't go as hoped :(

They wouldn't go below £11.5k and were a few hundred light on the trade-in too.

Oh well, will have to keep looking...

See what happens towards the end of the month, if it's still there they may come back to you if they need the sales.

Ok guys, off to see a new target today. :)

2.5i Roadster
53 plate
40k miles
Black / Heated black leather
Electric memory seats
18" Ellipsoid alloys
CD changer
PDC

Apparently it's not got the wind deflector fitted - that's about £200 for parts or £400 fitted if I want to get the OEM one, isn't it? It's also only got about 2mm on the fronts apparently, so they'll need to be changed soon.

It's from a dealer so it's got a 130 point RAC check, 3 months RAC warranty and a min of 9 months MOT.

They're asking £9,500 - does getting that down to £8,500 seem unreasonable considering the new tyres on the front will be about £350 alone?

Thanks again - I'm sure I'll be back with more noob questions soon

Some dealers these days wont move at all. And they will probably say its included in the price etc, but try anyway especially if your paying cash etc.

A guy i sold my old 107 wheels to got a 2003 black 2.5 for 6k!!! Bloke was leaving the country and needed to sell it apparently  always makes me wary when someone says that, but he was well happy :driving:

Yeah thats what i thought. Almost got stung with a 120d for the missus, someone saying they were moving abroad, and to leave a deposit in a place in London  Umm no problem :D

It did look quite tidy though, but the roof motor was knackered and wheels were knackered (hence he bought mine).

If a genuine seller really and quite honestly is leaving the country / having a baby / needs deposit for a house then they will be happy to provide some evidence to support this!

I have been in this position a couple of times selling up to move to Germany and later Texas and would have had no problem providing some peace of mind to the buyer.

With the 'having a baby' the evidence is usually right in front of you! I bought my S2000 from a lady with a large bump!

There are plenty about on pistonheads - try and avoid the dealers if you can, youd paying a few GGs just for the pleasure!

Right, bit of a long story this.

Went to see option 2 on Saturday, and the missus fell in love. I thought it was basically a clean car, but it had a few things that worried me slightly - it had 4 mismatched tyres (non runflat) the tracking was off and it was thoroughly dirty, inside and out. Also the service book was missing, but I was assured that there was a service history and the majority of it was BMW, they just needed to find the book.

We agreed a price subject to 4 new Bridgestone RE050s, satisfactory provision of the history, upgrading the warranty to a full year and a full valet. At this point I paid the deposit.

Fast forward to today and two things happened:

1. The dealer for the AUC in post 1 came back and dropped the price by another £500 and is throwing in delivery (from Swansea to Manchester), 6 months tax and £40 of fuel

2. Checking on the history of car 2 reveals that:
- the only BMW service history was the 1st oil change
- it wasn't first MOT'd until it was 4 1/2 years old
- it had failed a subsequent MOT with a fractured spring and I couldn't prove what repairs were done
- the Xenons seemed to be nothing but trouble - the cause of a couple of MOT failures after being replaced under warranty
- the dealer was going to have to call the previous owner to verify the more recent history

Given the above, I've cancelled car 2 and placed a new deposit on car 1. I will be fighting very hard to get the deposit back as I was told a few things that were not true about the service history in particular. I'm taking this as learning the hard way about fools rushing in :headbang:

I also need to placate the wife as she preferred the black one, especially as it had the electric memory seats

At least I've ended up with a lovely example at a price I was originally willing to pay
Pics will be up when it arrives....

You won't have any trouble getting your deposit back, the sale was conditional on a number of terms the seller of car 2 cannot fulfil. Use some words along these lines, politely and 'with regret' ;)
