Is this a fair price for a 2007 Z4 with 18k miles on the clock?

Update: I asked about the service history - basically it looks as if it was last serviced in 2014 when the mileage was 13k, since then it has only had the oil and filters changed two years ago.

*********

We viewed a Z4 today.

Its a 2.0 2007 with only 18k miles on the clock. Hard to believe but the DVLA MOT history bears it out - its done less than 10k miles since 2010 and the previous owners seem to have used this as a sunshine car.

The bodywork is near perfect apart from the lower front where the paint has flaked (owner said he had had a quote for £100 to respire). Only other minor things I could see was that one alloy had been slightly kerbed, and the driver's seat leather on the door side was slightly worn.

I had a quick look underneath and its looked nice and clean for as far as I could see. Car drove perfectly and seemed a big step up in power from my 1.8 Z3 that I owned up until a few years ago.

I have asked about the service history as I forgot to ask at the time (schoolboy error I know).

The owner is asking £8.5k, and looking at similar cars on AutoTrader its a quite pricey - of course the mileage is exceptionally low.

Is this a realistic price?

Any feedback for a newbie appreciated,

Personally if i was spending 8.5k Id be wanting 2 more cylinders even if they bring a higher mileage
+1, the value of that car will plummet as you put the mileage on.

As nice as it may be it’s expensive for a 2.0 and a hefty premium for the lower mileage, which isn’t alway a good thing.

The only experience I’ve had of low mileage was a genuine one careful lady owner- ironically 18k miles

As soon as I started driving it, it fell apart- I’d average 18k a year!

I guess it depends what you will use it for, if it’s a daily then I’d go elsewhere

Just my fourpenneth!

It will be a second car for weekend use mostly so I don't expect a lot of miles to be added.

If its a second car, id pay 4k for an average miles car, which will then turn into a low miles car if you only put on a few thousand miles a year. If you buy savvy, you could keep it 5 years and not lose any money.

Spending £8.5k on a 2 litre, youre almost certain to lose a few grand.

Unless you are set on an e85 - I would be spending the extra £2k on one of these listed below

If it has to be an e85 - this one makes more sense IMHO - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133780405264?hash=item1f25eefc10:g:nocAAOSwZ0Vguyr-

There aren't too many red E85s around, but as others have said I wouldn't want to pay that much for a 2 litre one however low the mileage!

As far as I'm concerned having a straight 6 is one of the E85s unique features, but as your Z3 was a 1.8 you may think otherwise.

Whatever you decide good luck finding the right one.

Whatever you buy make sure you budget for at least another £1k for servicing and repairs.

Even if it's been sitting unused the bushes probably need done.

It needs serviced then there's tyres.

I wouldn't be touching it as it'll still have the same issues as other 2.0 cars.

You can get a lot more car for the same money. A higher mileage 3.0 se or si or even a 2.5si and you'll enjoy it more.

Way overpriced, and as said, buy a 2.5si or 3.0si for similar money,or possibly less, with around 50 to 60k miles on it and get a faster, more enjoyable car to drive :driving:

Hi.

I would agree with the general consensus here. I to looked at a 4 pot and it didn't feel right to me. Under powered and a lack of torque. The car was built for a 6 pot and it is a much better drive. Low mileage can be misleading as it could fall over any time due to bushes, braked, fluids and bearings. It has been idle most of its life and could be slow and expensive to re-energise. Oh no that's my kids!!!

I purchased a 2.5 Si and am so glad I did. Its coming up to 100K (999680) and is still as spritely and fast as it was new. Just spent £1100 on auto transmission, brake, coolant and differential fluid changes and it is a different drive.

I don't see the attraction of buying a low mileage car unless you are garaging it and using it sparingly and really buying as an investment.

If you end up using it, you'll devalue it from the high price you paid. Better off just buying a higher milage example which will likely have a similar running cost anyway for the reasons outlined above.

Hi there,

Good shout on the tyres - had the same issue on the MX5 where the tyres had cracked even though there was plenty of tread.

I'm steering away from this mostly due to the price - We Buy Any Car priced it at 4.7k and that was with a full SH.

Can you give me a list of the common 2.0 issues that are likely to occur so that I can check these have been fixed (I'm steering away from this mostly due to the price - We Buy Any Car priced it at 4.7k and that was with a full SH.

I'm not an expert in car mechanics so not that up to speed on what things like bushes are so best to keep it simple for a no-nothing like me!

All of this advice is hugely appreciated for a Z4 wannabe.

The more serious 2.0l problems are timing chain / tensioner related.

Exhaust manifolds / cats crack frequently and there are common but more minor emissions related fault codes that seem hard to resolve. The problem is it results in an EML light which is an MOT failure.

Valvetronic motors seem to be more prone to failure on the N46 as well for some reason.
