By all accounts he was a well-known "wheel-man". Reckon they threw the book at him because of past misdemeanours.

Love to know what the Police tried chasing the modded RS5 with though... :o

"Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how during the 65-mile chase in January Westwood, 33, almost outpaced the police helicopter"

:o

serial offendors of dangerous crimes like this should have the book thrown at them..... it would maybe serve as a warning to others and thank god he didnt kill anyone!

Despite the wording in the original link, it doesn't say anywhere in the story that the 9 year sentence was for driving at 180mph. It says that he drove at 180mph - and that he got a 9 year sentence for various offences (including dangerous driving (not necessarily related to the speed he was doing), conspiracy to burglary and steal, presumably resisting arrest, etc). The media have, with their usual hysteria about speeding, picked one relatively irrelevant item about the court case and used that in their headline.

I do wonder about the point in giving somebody a 4 year driving ban at the same time as a 9 year custodial sentence!

News said 7.5 years for burglary etc plus 1.5 yrs for dangerous driving, 180 mph Audi RS5 - no limiter then?

All I can say is don't buy a tuned RS5 in case you end up with this one

Looks like he has afterburners on that thing - a Lambo engine ??? What a c0ck

not many police cars would keep up with that

he deserves all he got - if not for speeding then for the theft

Did anyone else think the news was being a bit biased and sensationalist? Jailed for 9 years for doing 180mph seemed way over the top. Oh hang on, he was driving a getaway car, and he was jailed for 9 years for a series of robberies and a spot of light getaway driving.

Can't wait for the anti car brigade to jump on this one... :headbang:

He's a total c*ck and deserves the sentence. Serial burglar and robber, so not like he just drove around fast once and got caught...

Absolutely, but the news headlines were all reporting on jail for 180mph driver. Nothing about leader of a gang of robbers until you got into the story...

The 180mph chase was the icing on the cake... This scumbag should rot in jail.

+1.
I heard this head line on radio 4 earlier - "a man is jailed for driving at 180mph " and I thought to myself 'ooh that's a bit tough, but then 180 is over the top, wonder what his sentence is, not something you'll ever recover from going to prison, even if it's a short sentence like 28 days, I wonder if how I'd cope if that was me, he'll probably lose his job', etc etc

Then I saw the full story - of course deserves the sentence!! It seems strange that all the news agencies are reporting it in the same type of headline, one that on first impression doesn't convey the story at all !!

does nobody feel this guy just needs guidance, maybe we just don't understand him, perhaps we need to see things more from his point of view

Of course - totally agree. Man gets 9 years for robbery doesn't sell airtime or papers. 180mph and 9'years - how harsh...

Don't worry, he'll get all the group hugs he needs in jail from Bubba...

Apparently the Audi had a Lambourgini engine fitted and was stolen to order. Anyone had that mod on here??? As the previous poster correctly stated, he only got 1.5 years for the driving. Reduced for good behaviour to about half that time doesn't make it that much of a deterrent I wouldn't have thought.
