Is this a 3.0 SI??

Hello All,

As per my wanted post, I am looking for a 3.0 SI or a M roadster. And I'm looking at this one on autotrader, but it has funny alloys, www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201504082424819/

is this actually a SI model??

Not a big fan of those alloys at all.....but due to limited choice might have to go look...

The bhp figure states 231 which is the 3.0i bhp output. Maybe it's been marked up wrong though.

it is an SE Spec 3.0si which is why it has the SE seats, Steering wheel, wheels and standard suspension. Same straight 6 engine though :)

As above, Si is not a trim level, it's an engine designation. All 3.0 after 2006 were Si in either SE or Sport trim levels.

Wheels are easy to change though so if that's you only issue has to be worth a look.

The motor insurance database has it listed as a Z4 SI SE Convertible, with the DVLA details as

Date of first registration :10 March 2008
Year of manufacture :2008
Cylinder capacity (cc) :2996cc
CO₂Emissions :204 g/km
Vehicle colour :SILVER

many thanks guys!!

Man such sharp eyes amongst you! I couldn't tell by the steering wheel or the seats!

Oh well, going to give it a miss, as I am very keen on the sports trim version...

So, as you can see this IS a 3.0si but not a 3.0si Sport - it's an SE spec 3.0si.

I don't know what kind of driving you want to do in your Zed and what kind of person you are but for what it's worth, the SE has a slightly softer suspension set up and wider, more capacious seats, making it, for some, a preferred ride but still a very capable Zed - same 265bhp engine.

The 3.0si can be difficult to source - I had to wait many months to find a Sport version at my price point but eventually was surprised to find an Authorised Used Car from BMW (so do keep checking out their web site). Consequently, prices can be strong and you may have to make a compromise on preferred colour and spec (as I did).

Most people seem enamoured by the 'Sport' spec and this might effect the eventual value?

Good luck with your search - you will be well pleased by your Zed but if you are considering an ///M and can face what are increasingly specialised high purchase costs and then the running costs and you intend to use it at weekends and for fun, then why not go straight to the ///M? I did 13000 miles + in my Zed last year despite it being a second car and most of the driving being for fun - not certain I could fund that annual mileage in an ///M. If you are buying a daily Zed, then a 3.0si makes sense as it can be cheaper to run. Worth checking out the recent posts on running costs of an ///M - interesting reading.

Thanks for the advice Paul. The main thing is the wheels and the steering wheel, I love the feel of the M steering wheel which the sports trim has in the 3.0SI.

It's a funny one really, originally I wanted a M roadster and after test driving three M roadsters and two coupes, I fell in love with the coupe's flowing lines and looks, and for some reason the two coupes drove better than the roadsters. Well, apart from pilchards but he wouldn't let me test drive his car, which I think would have been the clincher, and I would probably still be driving his car now....

But after owning the coupe, the urge to own a drop top became stronger and also the draw of pocketing the extra from a coupe and buying a cheaper roadster became a compelling argument in my own head. So I sold my coupe and bought an Audi A3 quattro tfsi and also a civic type r.....this is where I went wrong, the wife refused to let me have three cars....as nice as the CTR was (it was a minter!), it meant that I missed out on 2 very nice M roadsters this winter gone.

So after selling my Audi first (v boring despite the huge torque) and the CTR and procuring a family car - Mazda 6 2.5 Sport (actually I really like driving this car, more than the Audi!) I am finally in the right place to buy my weekend toy, only to find all the prices have rocketed!! Hence looking at 3.0SI as oppose to just M's.

Bit long winded but felt compelled to write this for some reason....

All makes sense to me wantaZm - the prices of ///Ms have rocketed indeed!

Sounds like the Sport version is the right one for you - hope you find your Zed soon.

I'd say it's at least £1k overpriced for a private seller, especially in SE trim, more if the inspection 2 is due.

Don't worry to much about the trim designation as mine is an se but has the m sport suspension & m sport seats fitted from new, as previously mentioned the engines are the same. You just need to find a car that has had the right options chosen for you
