im now a very happy man after fixing my 205 gti track day car. it took a lot of work, and internet research and reading through a haynes manual but i now feel like i know all the oily bits quite well having replaced quite a lot of them, next stop the mot centre!

after fitting new alternator, starter motor, distributer arm & cap, spark plugs, inlet manifold gasket, ignition amp, ingnition coil, changing coolant and oil im feeling quite smug, next jobs are fitting new cam belt, water pump and bleeding brakes / new fluid, i think id be more than comfortable getting under the hood of the z4 now

anyone else do this?, as im shocked how cheap pug parts are (not oem) so im sure ive saved a fortune in labour costs and learnt a lot in the process.

i must be honest, I can think of one thing thats definatly more satisfying than fixing my car :D

klarky, I limit myself to mild tinkering - although this forum has me doing more than I imagined I would when I bought the car. But yes, there is an immense sense of self satisfaction

To finish it off, to know you've done a really good job, break out the Swarfega!

Prefer a bacon butty myself...

:P

There's definitely a great sense of satisfaction from fixing something yourself. Appreciating the engineering by taking part in keeping it alive perhaps? Never really feels like your own until you've skinned your knuckles on it!

I'm not heavily clued up on taking cars apart - changing the oil and filters has been my limit so far as well as changing suspension/springs - but I'm always willing to give things a try. Brakes are one thing I'd attemt myself.

I do feel very comfortable working on push bikes though! Same principles on a much smaller scale - even down to bleeding hydraulic disc brakes. Same satisfaction I guess as my finger nails are often minging

I do everything on my Mk1 MR2 myself, ive done...

Bushes, Shocks, Springs, Brakes, Bearings, Ball joints, Exhaust, Clutch, Slave Cylinder, Alternator, Water Pump, Cam Belt, Radiator, Service and Audio....

I learnt alot of my skills working on E30's but I still wouldnt touch the Z4's Engine bay though, to many electrics. Suspension, brakes and gearbox i'd be fine with but then ive got extended warranty for that.

Yep, fixing a Jet Engine on an F-15 and getting to watch it take off in full AB down the runway and knowing YOU caused that to happen. Say what you want about other Aircraft Maintainers, but if the the engines don't work, that plane goes nowhere!

Ahhh the good old days of my 309 GTI, cambelt change in a record 45 mins. doing 20000 miles a year it was something I did every 18 months plus a fully rebuilt enging in a weekend. I still look at all faults first check the price and decide from there, last big job was new discs and pads on my VW Bora. I was quoted £200 + so sourced the parts for £70 inc VAT and fitted them, took about 90mins including tracking down the right tools :D

Fitting my motor in the scooby after doing a 2.5 engine conversion the most satisfing part was taking it to the rolling road and getting 350 bhp reading I dont think I will be liffting the motor out of the zed but do all the routine stuff like brake pads etc just about to pollybush the front end

I did something today that was very satisfying: sharpening a pencil with a stanley knife :P. There's just something about using a ruddy sharp blade to sharpen a pencil (overkill perhaps?) when there's probably a perfectly good pencil sharpener in the house...

is there anything more satisfying than fixing your own car? = Yes, its when you get a girl that says she is really hard to satisfy (you know what I mean by that) and you manage it without too much hassle, that is very satifsying :) That or basically upping the game on any previous sexual experience she has ever had.

Eating a krispie kreme donought? Man those things are SO bad for you, but an awesome once in a blue-moon treat.

Also being given oral pleasure while watching Match of the Day is somewhat an awesome experience (if a little strange).

Apologies for lowering the tone. Seriously try the above, those donughts are something else.

Yes?

We are all adults here, I was just answering the OP's question. Get yourself a KK doughnut and tell me how good it is.

Masturbation?, not that I do that sort of thing of course, but have read somewhere that it can be quite satisfying. :D
