Is there ANY iPod interface that works with the CD changer?

Sorry pvr I mean at the same time as the CD changer, which unless I'm very much mistaken the intravee doesn't as it connects to the CD changer port?

Mine has an AUX IN socket which works independently of the CD changer. The disadvantage is that you cannot control the iPod through the stereo (I just put the iPod on shuffle) and that the AUX IN does not use the extra amp etc that the Carver system has (in the same way that the radio doesn't). That said, I like to be able to use both so I'm quite happy with the situation.

Thanks Dave - that's my fallback, but just checking.

I didn't know that the aux doesn't use the extra amps. Is that a retofit aux? And do you know if it's true of the Logic7 system as well? I know people say the aux never sounds quite as good but didn't know this was the reason. If that's true I won't bother!

This is one of the first things i did when i bought my z4 - i have the sat nav system with CD changer and spoke to Greg at http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/car-audio-centre-birmingham.htm he advised me what parts i needed (Densions) they also fitted it all (took 2+ hours)

So i now can hook up my iphone/ipod (can also be controled via stereo) and still have the CD changer and single CD drive

Only downside is that it doesnt display track name and artists - but i think i need to play around with it http://www.pac-audio.com/PACProductData/Gateway%20100/3_Tech_Briefs/Setting%20KMP3%20Text%20In%20BMW.pdf

Why do you still need the changer?

Sometimes I'll just want a choice of music that's easy access without having to get my iphone out and connect it up. But maybe I'm thinking about it the wrong way and should just leave an ipod in the car and connected permanently.

Scroll down the page of the link I sent, you have Intravee iPod + CD changer. You just need more Alpine gear.

As pvr says the intravee is what you want here. I've got the intravee connected to the ipod and Alpine CD changer which is an exact replacement fit for the OEM changer. It all works very well, however, it a pain in the backside to fit and I never use the CD changer. I wouldn't bother to do it if I were you. The intravee is an easy connection to the CD changer cables and when you come to sell, all you'll have to do is unplug the cables and reconnect to the CD changer.

Thanks pvr - I thought you probably knew something I didn't.

dgm I think you're right, and if it's a PITA to replace the changer I won't.

I'm sure my questions are answered somewhere else, but is it easy to unplug the CD changer cable and fit the Intravee (and Alpine unit) from the boot (coupe)? I've had the carpet out before so I know how to get that far, and I think if the cable is loose is easy to pull it through, but if it's connected?

Thanks guys

On my car there was hardly any play in the CD changer cables which made it slightly awkward to connect them to the intravee. It isn't particularly difficult though and once you've pulled the carpet back there is plenty of room to place the intravee and Alpine KCA 420i.

Thanks dgm, I'm also planning on doing this in a Z4MC - can I ask if you did the fit entirely from the boot or do you need to take the centre console apart from inside the cabin?

Also if I'm leaving the CD changer in the bottom section of the console, will there be enough slack to get the CD changer cables up to the top section of the console where I presume the Intravee would go?

If you know of any how to guide specific to the coupe that would be very helpful! I have tried the search but not found the right post yet!

There shouldn't be any need to take the central console out, if the CD changer is staying in place all you'll have to do is find a way to route the ipod lead into the cabin. I can't remember exactly where the lead in mine is fed through but you could drill a small hole in the storage box if you can't find another way through. What I would say is to leave the USB/serial connector plugged into the intravee and extend the cable to an accessible point in the boot so that you don't have to remove the carpet every time you have to plug it into a computer to update the device. Here are a couple of pictures of my installation behind the firewall carpet, however, it does include additional Alpine equipment to facilitate the continued use of the CD changer. If you're going ahead without the CD changer then all you'll have is the intravee and Alpine kca 420i which is positioned to the far left in the second image.
