Is the Z4 35is the greatest car BMW has ever created?

Razer sharp handling (you need to try a better car)
Comfortable GT cruising (agreed)
Head turning looks (from experience yes)
Lightweight yet solid braced body (it's a heavy car)
Interior and exterior luxury (exterior luxury?)
Pure power and speed (yes powerrrrrr)
The exhaust note..... (agreed)
Folding hardtop that looks great up or down (agreed)

Erm, no, for a number of reasons, its a good car, not a great one, does lots of things well but nothing brilliantly and on most B roads would be handed its backside by a Boxster ...... still like mine a lot but if I wasn't into fast bikes I'd have a sharper car ...

Not even in the top 10 of best BMW's...

Not even the best Z4.....Albeit it the quickest.

If i had the choice it would be.....

M coupe
35is
3.0si Coupe
M roady..

I dont get the boxster love, yes they handle well...... Apart from that they are a sack of sh1t.

My wife has a poster on the inside of a wardrobe door. It reads, ' I may have my faults but being wrong isn't one of them.'
I can see from reading these posts she is not alone.

Do you mean that there's someone else in her wardrobe?

Is this not identical to last week's 'will it be a classic' thread. I'm all for free speech but surely we can do better...

Lol this isnt really about it being a classic or its value. Much more about if it is technically from an objective stand point BMWs all round best car.

Look, I've had my 35i for a very long time now. I love that car to bits but would I describe it as being a great BMW, not really. Handling is frankly ancient and it just feels old. Yes it sounds great and looks nice but it's not a shining example of BMW handling or refinement. It's a quick nice looking cruiser.. and that was its design brief.

A design brief that's over 10 years old.

John Lennon was once asked, 'Is Ringo Starr the best drummer in the world?'

His reply...

'He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles!'

I have had a suspicion for some time that she was hiding something. I 'll keep a close eye on that wardrobe in future.

For me, having driven one, I would say NO. It's just TOO soft and lardy. Yes, the performance is great, in a straight line. But I think it was designed more for the american/californian/canadian market with their wide straight roads and fat @rses!

Mike
It might will have been designed for the North American market but it did not sell very well here. I don't know of any Zed M owners that moved on to the E-89 but I'm sure there were some that did. As a recognized leader in the local Z community my local BMW dealer had always been happy to share sales info with me on their sales of the E85/86. Shortly after the sales of the E-89 began they pulled back from sharing that info. Our local Chapter of ZSCCA has over 50 members with about an equal split of Z3's and Z4's. We have only one member with an E-89! At one point I test drove a couple of E-89's but decided I like my M better and still do.

Didn't CS Lewis write a book about the Lyin' Witch in the Wardrobe?

Needless to say I daren't tell her that. Not if I want to stay out of hospital.

OP loves his car, which is fair enough but greatest BMW ever - just No!

How can it be when they also made the M1, Z8, E9 3.0 CSL, M635CSi, E39 M5, E60 M5, E46 M3, Z4M - I'm sure there are some I've missed!
