Hi all -been on the phone with my local stealer to see what they sell cleaning/protecting wise (roof/leather)-they sell an ultimate cleaning /protecting kit for £55.00-comes in a briefcase apparently  -includes shampoo, soft top cleaner, impregnating agent, resin remover, and paint preserve-he said he was unsure of what cloths/sponges came with it until i ordered it  -would you say it was worth it?-thanx

Personally I wouldn't waste my money and would take my £55 to one of the online detailing stores and buy what I needed.

Plenty of recommendations on the detailing forum about what to use.

I wouldn't bother either.

Use the cheapest shampoo, tar remover and polish you can find. Then some of this lovely stuff:

I used the autoglym hood cleaner/sealer and maguires seem the most popular for leathercare.

As others have said, I would sort one out yourself! Plenty of info here.

I've been using www.elitecarcare.co.uk who have provided a great service so far - and they sell Poorboy's and Dodo Juice.

IIRC yours is quite a dark car, the one thing I would suggest when you're doing a big clean - in between polish and wax, use Poorboy's Black Hole glaze, everything I have seen on dark cars looks great - White Diamond (for lighter cars) worked very well on mine!

Only other recommendation would be a quick detailer - after a regular wash, spray on a freshly rinsed car and then dry - it helps drying and leaves a great shine! I've just bought the Poorboy's one, not cheap for what you get but great results. Otherwise Megs is very good.

I'd say start with smaller bottles / trial sizes where available and see what you get on with.

I used the autoglym hood cleaner/sealer
Now I thought the Hood was not a sealed material and using a sealant (Autoglym )was likely to prevent it working correctly
I therefore use the BMW conditioner which does not attempt to waterproof it

I am sure I will be corrected if I have this wrong

I think it just coats the fibres to make them hydrophobic so water pools whilst still allowing them to breath. So maybe i was wrong to call it a 'sealer' ?

I used to use it on my MX-5 which had a single skin hood therefore needed to be waterproofed so I believe it is a waterproofing

From the Autoglym web site ( hood Maintenance Kit )
Fabric Hood Protector Reproofs, protects and preserves the surface from the effects of water absorption and surface soiling.

If you know someone in the trade - the kit costs £35 and BMW are not making a loss selling it at that price.

cant go wrong with poor boys , great results with out silly prices , other one i would recommend is dodo juice lime prime after washing to clense the paint prior to polish and wax

Try Joe @ sopers

The previous owner had bought one and left it in the car.He had hardly used anything from it.The holdall is the best bit.Dont waste your money.

There has been a fair few threads on the roof and autoglym- I personally like the effect it has and the colour restoring virtues of the product! However many think the roof needs to breathe. No problems from any member yet either way so your choice really. As for BMW stuff +1 on buying else where
