Is the roof telling me something?

Jumped into Vall's 2.5i this morning for an early run to the coast for a walk and a bacon roll before the masses descended.
Started the car, both in, doors shut and windows wound down. Then Vall pressed the button to open the roof. Nothing. No sounds, no red lights. Zilch.
So I jumped out, checked the boot tray was down etc. We tried again. Still nothing.
Then, in the best IT Helpdesk tradition, we turned it off and back on again.
Worked perfectly.
Got to Southwold, it went up fine. Set off for home, it went down fine.
As I always used to write in the aircraft log books "Unable to reproduce fault".

Any ideas?
Likely to be a glitch or the first warning of impending issues?

Hi enuff_zed, I had a similar problem with my 04 plate. I was very careful on keeping the motor dry (cleaning waterways etc) but for the last couple of weeks I had the same issues, it'll work straight away one day then not at all the next then, after a few tries the next day.
I thought it was a sensor tbh. I would normally look at this sort of thing myself but due to a hand injury & being unable to hold a screwdriver let alone anything technical at the moment I managed to get the car in to RBW (highly recommend). They found that the motor was indeed wet even with my (obviously inferior) cleaning out of rubbery bits. Luckily they caught it in time & after a quick clean & relocate it all works great again.
So, if your motor's still in the side pocket, I would suggest taking a peek at it asap.
If however your motor is in the boot then please ignore all the above.

Cheers, yes it is still in the well of doom.
I will add it to the list of jobs that need doing first.

Just need to find someone near me to do it..................... though a trip down to see Bowser wouldn't be the end of the world.

That sort of intermittent fault suggests a break/iffy connection in the roof sensor loom. If it was just the motor you'd get the window drop, unlatching, still.
When the roof ECU isn't getting information from the sensors it will do nothing and give no LED's on the switch

Did think it sounded a bit more like electrickery tbh.
I guess I won't be able to confirm a connection issue until it fails again then?
Still worth getting the motor moved though I reckon.
