Is the MFSW plug and play?

Heya,

Pretty much title but I've got a 2004 3.0i and it's built in March 04. So I think I'm right in saying that the connector for the buttons is actually in my car already?

So do we think that the wheel in the pic should just plug in? I appreciate that there will be likely be a lack of cable connecting my radio to these buttons as the radio is not the bmw one.

You need the slip-ring or squib as they are known as (why?) which may or not be fitted, I am aware that early cars had all options prepared for but I would be surprised if the slip-ring was there. The wheel will no doubt steer, obviously, but if you have a non-standard stereo what do you intend the controls to do?

Huh, what's the slip-ring? Wasn't expecting to need another bit!

Well I'm hoping to make the buttons work for volume controls.

This is what I'm hoping for. I think my car should definitely have the cables in but only one way to find out.

There is a link on here that I followed, You can search MFSW and you will find it
 
You should, but they make a basic one that does the horn and airbag then for MF they have a version with all the extra connections, you may well have it , but forewarned etc!
 
The slip ring is the bit that all the "wires go into". So you'll need it before it can work.
Think of it like a USB car charger, you need to plug this into the car, before you plug in your USB cable.

Also you said you have an aftermarket radio? Don't think you'll be able to use steering wheel buttons! The BMW steering buttons only work on BMW (stock) radio afaik!

Aftermarket headunits will work the steering buttons, you just need to purchase a steering function adapter :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
