Is the ash going to ruin our paint?

know what you mean with the logo... I really wanted one without a logo on it, just to try and hide what's under it a bit more. It is a little bit ostentatious with the massive BMW badge slapped across the bonnet. But sod it, the cover's there to protect the car from the elements first and formost. So couldn't give a monkey's what people think when they see me putting it on :)

Most people will think what i'm about to say is effectively rubbish (including myself) but to fool myself into feeling better about having the BMW logo splashed on my cover is this: it tells people there is a BMW underneath, as in, yes it's a BMW so no need for you to rip the cover off and be nosey or a theiving git for that matter :)

hehe... my solace in the logo is "yeah, it's a BMW, it's not a Ferrari, Lambo or Aston... move along!". That and the silver hides the colour from the casual observer. If some tea-leaf gets an order for a merlot Z, less likely his mate will go "I know where there's one of those".

OMG talk to me about the poxy neighbours cutting their fecking grass right next to my car! His wife loves my car but he just gives my car the look of ...... well you all know what I mean don't you!
 
I'm pretty sure ash has started falling on my car. I waxed it this afternoon after removing dust with qd spray. Now the car is covered in a silvery grey dust that would not normally be there.
 
I laughed when i saw this post is this a wind up? :sos:

its just a bit of dust the reason you can't see it is cos its 40,000 feet up and btw it will wash off with water
 
Bohemoth, as pointed out previously: volcanic ash contains silica, ie. tiny bits of glass. So for anyone who's serious about the finish on their car, it's not that stupid a question :P

Absolutely!! Right on :thumbsup: it's not a stupid question!
I use the two bucket method and spend at least two hours per week cleaning my car, and I tell you all now.
If this fecking ash ruins my paint work I'm going to go to Iceland and smash up their fecking fridge's !!!! And if that hideous bint katona is there I'll be telling her a few home truth's as well!
 
I cleaned mine yesterday, got the tyres changed, so then had to wash the wheels again, then drove it for over 100 miles! My engine hasn't blown up, and I've checked my paintwork and it's fine.
 
I hope this messes up my paintwork. I need my front bumper painted!

We panicked at work, we took several rolls of engine wrap (plastic) and covered up all our parts, engines, modules, etc. AND taped off the doors and turned off the ventilation. All that for zero ash fall in the shop :( I love the USAF panic button!
 
Fine layer of whitish/grey dust all over mine yesterday.
The rain today however has washed it all off :D
 
Is there a chance that the rain may have caused a little bit of an acid to stay on the surface in any droplets (or a haze) ??? Might want to give it a good rinse and a wash.... Sulphur in the ash can combine with the H20 etc, etc....
 
Hope the car is OK with ash sat on it. Stuck in the states - suppost to fly home on the 16th, first flight BA could offer is 30th! :headbang:
