Is something missing under the bonnet?

Firstly, allow me to explain that my Coupe is my daily driver, so those amongst us whose cars are cleaner than when they left the factory might want to look away  the following picture features dirt and unpolished surfaces!

In my Coupe's engine compartment, there appears to be something missing in between the driver's side suspension mounting and the brake servo?

i cant see the pic on my works pc but i think i know what you mean-its for the american market emission regs hardware i think :?

It's where you are meant to keep your cleaning equipment :poke:

It where the auxiliary Air Pump for other countries is installed , so don't worry.

the z4 engine bay is a messy place isn't it? Lots of unused pieces for different regions just left their... and the wiring is messy as well...

Phew.

For a moment I thought I was lacking something...

As a matter of fact, I have been cleaning today (have a long bank holiday break from work :D )

I've lavished some care on the car today...

Gliptone has been my best friend

Scrubs up quite well methinks

Awesome black coupe!

...and only the second one I've seen without tinted glass

Edit.

Reminds me of this pic, the day I collected it...

Your car's looking very tidy! Great colour combo.

My 3.0 coupe has the same empty bracket in the engine bay. Thanks for asking, I've wondered what that was!

The M and the Alpina have a pump there as well I think. I guess it's to do with manufacturing efficiencies - cheaper to have all the basic fixtures there than customise the whole chassis production line.

Nice interior colour combo.

+1
I'd love that colour in mine.

Yes, I have to admit that as soon as I saw the interior, I knew the Coupe would be mine!

Here is a photo from the passenger side.

I'm looking forward to cleaning up the engine bay over the next couple of days as I feel that it currently lets the car down. It's just grubby, so I'm confident that with a bit of elbow grease and copious quantities of Mr Meguiars finest it will soon be shipshape.

You have mismatched knobs on your stereo - or is it the light :?

Well spotted - the volume knob seems a lighter colour, it is almost a grey rather than black.

Not sure how to replace it, so I will probably try to darken it with peanut butter.

I think you need to upgrade those mismatched knobs to some nice shinny machine monkey knobs :driving:

Yep, its a mounting point for the secondary air pump, used due to meet the stricter emissions standards for the US market - it runs on startup for 90 seconds and injects air into the exhaust gases to increase the burn off of hydrocarbons and help the O2 sensors to heat up faster.. Here's mine (to the "clean police" apologies for the state of the engine bay, this was after a couple of laps at Cadwell Park... was a bit dusty  )
