Baseball players, football player they are all just high paid entertainers.
Congress should spend more of its time operating in its Constitutionally defined sphere and dealing with some of the really serious problems that the Constitution provides for them to deal with.

Perhaps on second thoughts I guess it's a good thing they are spending time on this and not voting pay raises for themselves... :P

Why us Congress involved? Don't they have things like the economy to deal with??

The Democrats are the majority party in Congress...they have a lower approval rating than President Bush....you do the math.

It's funny how the Republicans sided with Clemens and the Democrats against him. I don't understand what made this a partisan issue. :idunno: :idunno:

This is just the thing that annoys me. What does Congress have to do about this issue? As stated there are more important things for them to focus on.

Those Texans are thick as thieves.....kinda. Eventually this will be turned over to the Justice Dept and many baseball greats (sic) will be dethroned. IMHO, Baseball needs this cleansing.

I suppose the entertainment value to me is not worth the salaries in which they recieve. I believe their salary is one of the key components to their ridiculous behavior and attitude. To your statement I would imagine their services would need to be in high demand. But I have yet to see that to be honest. I don't understand the relevance of professional sports in our society. It seems to be there for those guys that have lost dreams or those that have "almost" made it. For the most part they don't even serve as a role model for children and not many of them give back to the community that put them there.

How is it that Hockey can be played at a professional level and sustain it's entertainment value. Yet football, basketbal, and baseball salaries are proportionally out of whack?

Giving back to the community is required by all leagues nowadays (MLB, NHL, NBA & NFL). I can't think of any profession that as a whole could serve as role models. There are good and bad people in every profession including sports so I never really understood the idea that all athletes should serve as role models for children.

The salary is based on revenues. Trust me, most team owners are not suffering in any way. If a team generates $200 million in revenue, I don't see a problem having a payroll of $100 million for players, after all, they are the ones playing the game.

I have partial-season tickets for the Detroit Tigers and I love going down to the ballpark on a warm summer evening. It seems you are partial to hockey, but that doesn't mean that others don't find other sports entertaining. I do. :)

Best baseball game is watching the hordes of fans that have stayed to the bottom of the 9th inning watching the Cubs losing 11 to 2 on a hot July afternoon game...all the way to the 3rd out.

If I want to watch a really good baseball game I walk down the street about 2 blocks to the park and watch a little league game....
That is some great baseball... :)

I have done this. Watching some of the parents brawling is more entertaining than HBO fight of the week.
