Is Nav needed?

Those who don't have it usually assume it should not make a difference and defend it to death

It might not make the thousands difference on resale, but it generally makes it easier to sell as most still want the toys despite of what the minority might say.

flimper specs just hang about longer, which then generally results in lower prices.

I had Nav in 2 of my Z4's...

For me,its neither here nor there.... Its looks and works in an antiquated way,and visually its a bit of a bleb...

Like i say,for me there is a million and one things to consider about a potential purchase than it.... If its got it,great... If it hasnt got it......Great...

How does the audio system work without it if there's no display? Or does it display what's being played somewhere else like on the dash? Apologies for such a silly question. Also would they come with a USB input?

When I was looking to buy I wanted one with nav, I think it works fine and like its other functions too. I also wasn't keen on the orange display on the radio of cars with no nav.
Having said that, if the car was perfect in all other ways; colour, service history, condition, price etc I would have bought one without it.

But it's easy enough to swap it for a Kenwood/Alpine headunit if I wanted too? Did read something if it had the 10 speaker setup it's harder but then would someone have specced10 speakers without the nav?

Spent years using Tom Tom or Nuvi in cars, complete pita having to unwrap the lead, stick the sat nav on a mat(never liked using on the windscreen) and then put up with untidy cable hanging around. Never tire of using the factory sat nav on my Zed, just push the button and its there and ready. £25 on ebay to a guy called rusty(great longstanding feedback) secures the firmware upgrade (v32?) and the latest 2015 full European disk with 7 digit postcodes and everything else I could ever need.

Aside from any issues, I just felt the nav ruined the lines of the dash, so it was Bluetooth and Cruise for me. PDC would have been nice too but the car was too good (touch wood) to pass on.

i like nav. never lets me down when I've needed to use it, i use a modded disc with speed cams etc and its always been very reliable. ( now I've sed this it will fail) lol, maybe even my age is showing but it like the way it folds away and displays other info when used with intravee. Its a 10 year old car... what are we all expecting.

You can but keep the original head unit for when you come to sell. After market units never look right in the Z4.

There are 10 speaker DSP spec cars out there without nav.

easier for menus, satnav isn't ground breaking but functional and always gets me to where I need to go, I actually use the TV suprisingly often too. I HATE 'temprorary' additions to the dash and windscreen ie satnavs etc, so I wouldn't be without the nav screen personally

Never understood the downer on the nav part though as it is faster than any TomTom / Garmin type products, it is always in the car and it works in tunnels / around high buildings where the stand alone units gets lost.

Yes, I do have a brand new Garmin as well and I hate it as it is still not as good as a 10 year old BMW system.

Ok - my E70 system looks a lot nicer compared to the E8x versions but I would still not want a car without Nav (not to mention all the board computer features you are missing out on + the other non nav related bits).

And with a TomTom/Garmin you always have to be careful to no leave the unit in the car. Thieves these days have scanners to scan your car and see if there is a GPS, smartphone or laptop inside. And with a TomTom it is so easy to see if there is one in the car. Just look at the circles from the TomTom holder on the front window and you know there is 75% chance there is one inside the car
