I have a 2003 3.0L. Will my stereo be a Carver as standard? Cranked up, it sounds good, very little distortion.

there are three different types of stereo - do you have cubby holes behind the seats in the back wall? If so then no you dont have anything other than basic...

Do you have the two bass speakers behind the seats or do you have storage space?

Sounds like you have the basic system. But, it seems that you are happy with it so that is the main thing.

It could be worse, you could have a brown car like me

I think what you got is the standard system which is the Business RDS system ,got that in mine with a CD changer plus i fitted the Aux-in,never heard the uprated sound systems so far as i'm concerned no problems with the sound quality it doe's what it says on the tin

Cheers guys. Am happy with the stereo, but just wondered as I thought Carver was standard on 3 litre

I'd like to hear the differences between the systems, anyone got the uprated systems who are going to the north meet?

I've got the middle level one, the 'HiFi 'option (but not full Carver /DSP). Sounds alright, but BMW stereos generally are a little weak. Engine makes up for it.

Nice one I already have my name down for that weekend too :)

You're gonna be making me jealous lol :P

To follow on from the OP, I don't have cubbys behind seats. How do I know if it's middle system or Carver?

Carver/Logic7 = DSP Option on Nav screen or DSP Presets on head unit.

Otherwise it's the Hifi (mid range)

The carver has a mid-range speaker behind the seats also... Has anyone actually seen the subwoofers? I thought they were in the front...

Rear Mids are the only ones that are enabled when the speakers are set to 'rear'. Common misconception which i believed until i spent an hour fiddling with the settings the other day  Hoik all the sound to the rear and just those 2 speakers play and sound like a 1950's wireless! ;)

Maybe we should have an EQ/DSP settings thread?? :P

Ive also got the carver system, sounds good, however not as good as the BOSE system i had in my TT, and not as good as the Harmon Kardon system in the wifes cooper S unfortunately.

wouldnt be without it though, and its a good system for what is a small space inside the car, your almost surrounded by speakers !

I have two speaker grilles behind each seat - a bit squarish one, and a smaller round one above it. I have a few cubby hols in the back between the seats. I'll see if I can post pics later. Does this narrow it down, or do I need to check for DSP buttons? (head unit just says business RDS)
