Is my speaker set up standard?

Had the car a month now, and only just started playing around with the sound system!
Gotta be honest, I love listening to the engine and exhaust.
Anyway, the stereo wasn't important to me when I chose the car.

The ///M has a business cd head unit, but behind the seats I have 2 large square speakers below the round ones.

On my zed 2.5, I had 2 extra cubbyholes where the speakers are on the ///M.

So the question is.....have I got the standard stereo/speakers?

sounds like carver to me... check in the boot for an amp (not quite sure where it'll be on the M..)
On the stereo itself, do you have a "DSP" menu option?

You have the Carver. The 3.0Si did too. Check to see if you have things like "concert", "jazz club", "church", etc in your stereo set up. Standard set up had 1 speaker behind each seat and a cubby hole.

Just took my Si coupe in for "muddy" bass-they changed speakers, but that wasn't it. New amp on the way.

the Si had a choice of three stereos.. as did every Z4 as far as i'm aware.

Standard
Top HiFi
Carver

Standard hifi has six speakers
Top Hifi has eight speakers
Carver has ten speakers.

In the US, the 3.0Si coupe and roadster had THX certified stereo with Carver tech as standard.

Not necessarily the Carver or DSP - there was an option known as "BMW Business Loudspeaker System" which includes the subs behind the seats but it's not Carver and has no DSP.

Muddy bass? What do you mean by this?

The spec on mind read BMW loudspeaker system. I have a business HU and two large speaker covers behind the front seats. 8 speakers in total. Can't see a DSP option. Sounds like the same thing

This is correct - it's 6 or 10 speakers.

Basic - 6
Loudspeaker - 10 & no Amp
DSP / Carver / THX / Logic 7 - 10 Speakers with AMP.

Instead of a nice, clean bass note, it was "muddy". Side harmonics. Not quite muffled, but just not like it was when new. I thought something was just loose--these cars are a bit tightly sprung. 8)

They tried a new speaker, but didn't fix it so they're putting in a new amp. Really, the only reason you should know you have those fabulous subs is the bass is deeper and richer. Hopefully they'll have it finished on Monday and I can give them back the 128 I've been driving. That's a heavy little car!!!!!!

I have had/still have the same issue in my M which has the 10 speaker DSP setup. The dealer has checked all of the speakers and amp, but I find the bass to be an "on/off" affair which often sounds saturated. I may end up trying a different dealer, however I can recommend turning the DSP off and simply adjusting the treble/bass as it goes some way to improving the sound.

I have DSP in the M and the only setup that works well for me is 'JazzClub' I find the bass is great and it seems to take the hard edge of the tweeters. Can't get a nice sound with any other mode. Also mp3's dont sound that great, it needs to be uncompressed music to really hear what the system has to offer :)

Yep. I either turn DSP off and adjust tuning or use JazzClub.
