Is My Baby on its way out??

Hi All

Used this forum for a multitude of different things for my Z4 and I guess what you call a 'lurker'

Basically my 05 plate Z4 2.0 which I've had for 6 years now has a few problems that all just landed on me last night. So time to ask for some assistance.

Coming home from a day out, I notice my window wipers do not work, nothing on the right stick works, no water jets or that. I investigate further and see that the windows do not go up or down and interior light doesn't work. You guessed it Central Locking also is goosed...

My Alarm goes off constantly and can only be silenced by removing the Negative terminal on the Battery.

I'm thinking the GM5 has gone as these are all controlled by this part. This is where I am struggling. Can I get this repaired as I only really see people discussing having the central locking fixed on these? If I send it away for a repair is it likely to be repaired or deemed as a complete write off...

If it is a complete write off what is my best option??

Any help is appreciated and thank you all for the many times you have provided assistance to me when I've simply came on here for a nose. Much love

Thomas

So you've broken cover :)
Replace the battery
(This has become my stock answer to any electrical gremlins, but its based upon lots of other posts on here  )

+1
This where I would start just to be on the safe side. Replacing the GM5 module is expensive and your right most places offering a fix on these are just replacing the Tyco relays for the central locking that fail.
Its really easy to test the battery yourself if you have never done it before. Or if you dont have the equipment/know how just pop down to most car spares place and they will do it for free.
The number of electrical gremlins this can case, including in some cases the vehicle going into transport mode seems endless on the zed.
If your car has gone into transport mode you will be quite unlucky as it rare, but you will need someone with the right scanner etc to unlock it.

The GM5 module can be reinitialized using proper software like INPA http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-USB-OBD-Cable-lead-Ediabas-Inpa-GT1-DIS-SSS-Progman-/281101114471?hash=item4172ee9c67:m:mrEBas-QtPhA1ynG7h8aKuA

once the car is running with specific software you wil be able to see if the coding been lost it may just need updating its very common to loose settings (have you disconnected the battery recently) changing battery can loose functions. If its still not working after just replace it you can find them on ebay for as little as £10+ and is easily replaced. It used to be behind the glove box in E46's by the fuse box so should be same in Z4. I've noticed a lot of Z4 parts are ridiculously over priced reason I'm going back to e46's more parts available at normal prices. A lot of parts are compatible between both just Z4 owners will get charged more......lol

Try disconnectioning the bonnet sensor to stop the alarm going off

Thank you all for the replies, I'm away to buy a volt meter to test the battery and will keep you updated.

Regards

Thomas

I've had a refurbished gm5 module delivered to me from www.bmwgm5repair.co.uk for around 100 pound. Just need to provide your vin number to them so they can code the new one just for your car. Then it was a straight swap.
