Another option is just get an App like Car Scanner ($3.95). Works with cheap bluetooth adapters and does general diagnostics and resets fault codes. A big plus is it also reads voltage. So you can quickly diagnose battery and alternators problems. Then for more serious work install either INPA or ISTA on you laptop.

Not wanting to offend but generic WiFi adapters are no different. It's not the interface between the adapter and device that are the problem, it's the protocols supported by the adapter on the cars comms network and the quality of the conversion that matters.

Generic apps and adapters are really pointless, they read and reset a tiny number of possible faults. You can see battery voltage using the secret onboard menu, no need to plug anything in.

I have the carley but like yourself didn't read the small print for the license,have you a link to the ebay items

You could just send him a copy of the apk they gave you. It's a cracked version so illegitimate either way.

Most of the reviews I've read on Trust Pilot seem to slate the Carly as daylight robbery, unreliable and hardly fit for purpose. Most of the comments on here are positive. I think I'll bite the bullet and change the battery, and then go from there.

Well Rob, after over a dozen emails to ‘Bernard’ at Carly I am no further forward. Initially he asked for proof of purchase. I furnished him with a copy of my invoice for the Carly, purchased in 2017 supposedly with lifetime support and updates. He then asked for a copy of the invoice related to the purchase of the App. I explained that at the time of purchase there was supposed to be lifetime support and updates and that I had access to everything at that point. He insisted that I had to provide an invoice for the App. I was able to send him a photograph of an email I had received in 2018 promising lifetime support and free apps. He has rejected this too as insufficient proof . I have no invoice as far as I can discover purchasing the App separately so, not to put too fine a point on it I’m b******d as far as I can tell.

I wouldn’t be fobbed off like that, they must have your email address on their system as proof of purchase.
Can you go into the App Store & bring up your purchased items like this?
