this is me thinking out loud really, but i never listen to radio just music from my iphone, dont even use the cd changer anymore. my question to anyone who could help is would it be possible to totally remove the radio unit and just have an audio input / amplifier, and just use a aftermarket headunit mount and a bit of fabricating to make somewhere an iphone could just clip onto the dash in that area? longer term i was thinking of a pc in the boot and a touch screen where the radio is?

am i dreaming or would this be possible ?? only issue is i have the carver dsp so wouldnt want to loose the subs behind the seats, which i think would be a sticking point due to the k-bus / carver amp.

would the only option be to remove the radio and fit an aftermarket amp and splice into the various speaker cables?

curiosity got the better of me so i got the screwdrivers out, ive been able to move the radio to the glove box!!!! i think if i move the aux in i installed into the ash tray behind the dash and then attach the various devices im thinking of using, the iphone could be dash mounted, shame not all apps / menus work in landscape mode :x

Klarky - ive been looking for a nice way to play iphone music through car. Motorola device does it via bluetooth and it charges the iphone too. just not sure how difficult install would be, but might be worth considering over destroying your dash tho http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/GB-EN/Consumer-Products-and-Services/Car-Kits/Professional-Car-Kits/Motorola-TK30-Music-Hands-Free-Car-Kit-GB-EN

not bothering with bluetooth as ive already put the mini aux in cable in. ive now come across something on ebay that im going to dismantle - more on that later  . ive also got the fag lighter converter to a usb port so i charge that way. luckily the dash isnt being destroyed - just stuff un screwed and relocated, i did consider getting a new dash to cut up to install a flip up compartment like the oem sat nav, but best price from a breaker was £175 ! and i dont have the room to store a spare dash if i ever wanted to revert to oem

lets just say as ive now moved the radio i have space to play with and i can revert the car to oem if i ever need to.
