Is It Possible To Fix

Hi,

I'm now on my second Z4 and realise that i must have a very heavy elbow, as i've managed to rip both driver's side arm rests (please see below).

Is it possible to get the rip itself amended without having to replace the arm rest or cover it in a new material - thanks in advance for your help.

I would say yes. But a skilled person with a lot of experience should do it. Otherwise you'll get a nasty eye catcher which will poke your eye every time you'll sat in the car. Can be expensive as much as replacing door cover with used one.

For sure an upholster will be able to repair it, or even leather cover both sides

I'd get a scrap door card and cut and refit an new armrest rather than spend the time and effort on the old one.

Where about are you in Ireland? I work in Newbridge 4 days per week and might even have a door card/part of one in my garage attic

CJ do you mean remove the leather insert and refit into scrap panel. this is what you did on yours from memory.

When I converted to red interior I did cut out the inserts and had them coloured red then refitted them. I was not 100% happy with the colour so later sourced some original black cards with oem red leather inserts. Still kept my old cards somewhere

Given that door cards are often made up of components plastic welded together I was thinking it may be possible to cut off the old armrest and weld on a new one.
Alternative may be to wrap the armrest in leather as a good way to hide the damage.

There is a place around that sells Colour coded z4 arm rests.

Can't remember the name but that did centre arm rests too, i managed to get a set off of ebay for 99p + £5 postage.

Had an opportunity to look at my door cards now I have the car back and looks like the arm is a one piece moulding with rest of the card. Idea of cutting the armrest off (as I've done on some leather arms on Jaguar doorcards I have) wouldn't work
