Is it okay to leave the roof down?

Hello

After two days of cleaning she’s looking nice and clean, some great top down driving in sunny Scotland today as well.

Made me think, is it okay to leave the roof down for a prolonged period say a couple of weeks (car is kept in a locked garage), or is it better to raise it each night?

AFAIK there’s no technical reason stopping you parking the car roof down…for prolonged periods….obviously you can’t get access to the boot contents, battery etc,,

Looking pristine. 8)

I have an E85 so I can't answer much of your question. I leave my soft top down almost always when garaged. Basically unless it is wet. A few common items to consider are dust, vermin and access. No vermin and very little dust in our warm garage so access is a big plus for me being 6ft 4". :)

There may be mechanical reasons for up or down with your folding hard top though. But I've not heard them mentioned.

Not a great idea bud.
The soft hoods have a neoprene type membrane inside that provides the waterproofing. If you continue to leave it down for really long periods it might well crease and crack.
Many soft top manufacturers also dont recommend folding the hood in low temperatures when the neoprene is less flexible.
Last soft top audi i had it was recommended at around 10deg C

TWO DAYS - what do you use a cotton bud!!! :poke: :poke:

Thats looks good and as its an e89 I would leave the roof down in the garage - maybe I would put a cover over the cockpit though

On an e85 - I would puttee roof up, would the roof not crease eventually?

Mine has been down for the past 11 years. still works just fine. It is nice and warm in our garage. I have 30 year old wet suits stored in the garden shed, if it's a similar material it stays flexible for a good long while. I hear what you say though :)

One thing to bear in mind....
There will be spiders on your garage which will probably get inside the car. I know the last thing I would want when driving around is a big hairy arachnid crawling up my leg or anywhere else TBH. :)

Melbourne red looks so nice in the sunshine

Spiders are gods fly catchers, mostly wonderful helpfull creatures. You do also realise I love to sleep in the middle of the moors, without so much as a tent. I was up there just last week taking part in a world record attempt. :D

Enough thread drift. Though I like to think no tent counts as roof down. :D
