Are parking spaces getting frigging narrower..?

Wherever I seem to park now cars are closer and closer..no wonder when you look down the side of most cars they are pitted with parking dings.. :x

It seems modern cars are getting bigger and wider but parking spaces are getting smaller and narrower .. :?

Really? You've only just noticed?

Which is why the ignorant types like me take 2 spaces in supermarket car parks to allow room either side to avoid the dings caused by the ignorant people who don't give a s**t about other peoples property.

Trouble is now round by me ..if you park over the lines you get a ticket.. :x :x

Can't win...I think that's why they are making them narrower so if you are on the lines it's £60...

Feckers... :x :x

It is dangerous to park over 2 spaces. Yes, tickets are a risk - some supermarkets have private parking companies who patrol, some don't. I definitely wouldn't do it in a pay & display.

Our local Tesco's has no parking enforcement, and is never more than 2/3 full, so I always park at the far end of the car park (farthest from the store) and over 2 spaces.

The way I see this, is that I am not inconveniencing anyone, cos there are plenty of spaces available that are closer to the store. But some people will still take offence. Some people will park right next to you to make a point, or you risk people keying the car.

I agree that to take 2 spaces when there aren't enough empty spaces, or close to the store is ignorant, but fail to see why people get offended by it when it is in no way causing them a problem.

The whole purpose is to hopefully have plenty of room either side of the car, so that when people fling their car doors open, they don't dink your door.

Other tactics include using an end space and parking right up to the open side, leaving as much room between you and the next car.

Cars are getting wider. :D

We recenty had all the parking spaces at work re painted. The jobs worth that did it, measured each to the regulation width. So we ended up with a useless four foot wide space at one end. Clearly to hard to measure the car park and divide by the number of spaces required. I do hate jobs worth numpties. :headbang:

Just a thought... If you bought 2 parking tickets can you use 2 slots? :)

I try to choose end of isles or in corners where there is a bit more room to get right over in the slot

Planning regulations specify minimum parking space size of 2.4m by 4.8m (larger for a disabled space). However, available space for car parks often limited so developers use the minimum space allowance to get the number of spaces required to meet planning conditions. However, as noted, vehicles are generally getting wider and more Chelsea tractors on the road in towns and cities, people are getting fatter and need to open the door wider to get in and out, so really each parking space now needs to be minimum 2.5m by 5.0m.
Glad I'm retired and don't have to worry about these matters now.

I know I'm being ott about it, but parking in public car parks is the worst thing I have to do with the zed. My girlfriend can't understand it either.
To me, the fact some lazy / stupid / jealous / overweight (delete as necessary) person can open their door onto your car, hard enough to leave a dent and damage, is ridiculous. Yes there's the odd gust of wind and no intent, I could accept that, but it's all about the person's attitude that bothers me.

Put it rationally down to risk and you should be able to leave your car in any space in any carpark, and end up with the odd dent every few years if you're unlucky. £70 to remove, no worries. As soon as you factor in either a nice looking car (or one that's perceived to be expensive) or something that's well looked after and cherished, and in my paranoid mind the likelihood seems to go up by a factor of 10! Factor in the zed's swage lines and repairs are best prevented than used as a cure.

I bet there're more courteous people out there than the 'others', but for now I'll park in an end spot every time and cross my fingers!

I'd better get off this soap box now...

Definitely narrower.

Some car parks I've been into recently it almost seems like I'm closer to one white line than the other and have to double check. Hardly any room to get out or open the door.

I daren't park between two cars as I noticed yet another 'car park ding' at the weekend where someone has obviously just opened the door onto mine without a car in the world. I always try and find an end space or somewhere tucked out of the way to avoid the dingers.

Sad times.
