IS IT JUST ME THATS UNLUCKY ?

Ok has anyone else had to have the main roof ram's replaced on an e85 ?

1. New roof motor all done and sorted.
2. All hydraulics checked no leaks new washers on motor etc

ROOF STILL VERY LAZY ON OPENING AND ONLY OPENS WITH A PUSH FOR THE FIRST FEW INCHES - CLOSES FINE NO PROB -
the garage have been absolutely brilliant and even they have said its unusual as the motor usually sorts the problem.

They have stripped the roof three times and even tried a replacement motor (only charging once for the labour and no charge for the motor). They have said the only thing left to replace is the main roof rams at £300 per side....... Ouch

Help...... I love the car what should I do ? I will have to sell one of the kids to afford the £1000.00 + bill

Maybe I'm just not destined to enjoy the fun al fresco motoring brings ?

Anyone had a similar problem :|

Just reading you post and the first thing that springs to my mind is air in the system. If the hydraulic pump is new then for it to work slow would point to air trapped and being compressed.

How you would go about bleeding it I'd have no idea. ( sure you wanted to hear that )

Thanks Yorkie Z - but the car is with a BMW specialist here in Manchester so I'm guessing they have thought of that !

The system is supposed to be self priming; so as long as there's enough fluid in the reservoir, it should sort any air out for itself once the roof's been up/down a few times.

I have had my E85 roof motor replaced.
It was very lazy and opens with a push for the first week or so.
Then was fine. Give it a week or so and then if its still happening, try a different route.

Thanks guys..... just a bit pissed off as you can imagine these "rams" what do they actually do ? has anyone anywhere had this problem ?

Done some checking up on this and it would appear it's the main roof hinges part no (54347193449)

Has anyone out there had to replace these of is it just me who's down on his luck ? :sos:
