Following on from a discussion in a another thread, I thought it might be interesting (and controversial) as to what people think our cars actually are, whether they are convertibles or roadsters- or something else

I did see this, which makes it as clear as mud :D

1.A cabriolet is a soft top or drop head coupe with roll up windows.
2.A roadster does not have roll up windows. It has an optional soft top and clear side curtains for windows.
3.A convertible is a four door sedan with a fold away top which may be soft or hard. It has all the attributes of a normal sedan including wind up windows etc.
4.A spyder is a two door two seated sports roadster or convertible with no weather protection.

from the above (not saying this is right, before anyone starts) ours are Cabriolets

Are you sure :fightwall:

http://www.convertiblecarmagazine.com/features/the-difference-between-a-convertible-and-a-cabriolet/

Additionally BMW VIN Decoder describes my Z4 as a ‘Roadster’ and my M6 as a ‘Cabriolet’ pick the bones out of that

Its a Rag Top or maybe a Drop Top or even an Open Top Two Seater

This is worth a read

different terminology depending on the image they want to convey i guess.

'roadster' makes it seem sporty - but generally a two seater?

'convertible' is generic term and could be either two seater or 4/5 seater

'cabriolet' again generic term but applies more to 4/5 seater with a soft top?

Yeah right,,, and think of everything else that has more than one name/title/description

LoL  It's a Roadster as BMW saw fit to call it so. But who actually cares.

Great thread - it looks like E85 and E89 owners fall into the undecided camp!

But E86 owners know they have a Coupe! :)

But E86 owners know they have a COUPE! (You know, a bit like a GT6 but with about twice the power)!

:P

You’re all wrong. The phrase you are looking for is MOBILE SALON.

And it is just ruining ones hair.

Coupe - Taken from urban dictionary,, :D

A coupe is a car that is able to fit two passengers. Bahamian males refer to this term in order to express their desire to engage in coitus with a female and only one of their companions. The female is the coupe and the two males are the passengers.

Edit - Besides isn't coupe a posh term for a hatchback :poke:
