Is high mileage a risk?

Looking to buy my 1st z4 on a 5k budget, has to be a 3.0,
so I'm looking at a 03 or 04, I'm seeing a lot of available cars but most have 100000+ miles, ok most have full service history but is it a risk?

I had a coupe with 103k on the clock.... drove absolutely great.

I wouldn't worry about 100k miles at all as long as its in good condition
200k+ is a worry

These engines are really bullet proof but if I were you I would just be patient and wait and aim for one with 60k or lower on it, they are out there but you may have to wait a while. I wouldn't buy one with 80k or above on it but I am sure plenty will come on here saying they would : ) and that's fine as we are all different but I would wait and get a lower mileage car.

You're buying an 10 year old car, 10k/year is not that high at all.

My 03 is on 94k and if in fantastic condition. It's always been serviced on time, and had regular maintenance, such as changing over bushes etc.

I'd buy on condition and spec rather than mileage. How many engine failures do you hear of in the Z4? I've yet to hear of any due to high mileage.

TBH its widely suggested that a high miler would likely be better long term than something used now and then with low miles. Machines are better used and maintained.

I've had many BMWs in my life. As long as you buy a straight 6 it should go for miles.

Highest mileage I had was a 520, which I got up to 290k, had an E46 325 Coupe to about 130k, E36 coupe to 200k.

And ive had a few others too. Never had a major repair bill on any of them. Biggest bill was probably £400 on the 5 series because the auto gearbox gave up and needed new fluid.

So when it comes to BMWs, as long as they have some level of regular servicing (even if its not main dealer) I wouldn't worry too much about mileage.

I'd not worry no, mine's on 120k and is superb. Shame you're not buying in 6 months, I think you'd like mine. Meticulously maintained and in great condition.

I wouldn't worry too much about mileage, mines on 112k, i've done 13k miles this year alone. All you need to worry about is options, mine has the m sport seats, heated, cruise control, business system with subs and amp and aux connection. Serviced regularly and runs like a dream. Looking to switch to an //M soon. :D :driving:

Is the thinking the same on the M and non M models?
Not trying to start up old debates, but with the vanos etc they seem to be more complicated engines.
Also most M owners seem to favour low mileage models...

lets get a few things straight here, Nothing is bulletproof ! not ragging, and regular servicing helps but doesnt mean something internal cant break tomorrow, low milws , high miles its all luck of the draw really, obviously a low miler is the better bet as the moving parts are less worn, but again things dont like to be laid up, go on general condition and gut feeling and budgetb accordingly. :driving:
