et alone if VW are getting involved in 2018

Funny you should've mentioned VW and F1 prior to the news later in the week.

Apparently the underperformance of the Mercedes cars in Singapore is still an unsolved mystery. Anyone still care to claim the German company didn't pull its punches last weekend? :fuelfire:

Maybe the Merc's thought they were in emissions test mode!

ha ha, very good

There's no way F1 is fixed, you couldn't keep that amount of people and associates zipped for that long, somebody would squawk. The damage it would do to the already under scrutiny sport and manufacturers makes it implausible. Yes ok look at VW, but the sheer numbers of people on opposing teams etc, you couldn't keep it under wraps, even if it's only a limited number of personnel in each team knowing, there's too many technicians in the background smelling a rat from an underperforming car. Also top people like like Frank and Claire Williams, Patrick head, Adrian Newey, etc etc, these people cheating? I don't think so. I don't know the reason for the drop off in Merc's performance, I would have said it's to do with a narrow optimum tyre operating window being missed, who knows, but I reckon it'll be normal service resumed this weekend.

All just IMHO of course.

It might as well be, I've found this season quite boring to keep up with other then few highlights sadly. :(

I wouldnt say it's been boring maybe predictable compared to last season it has been but then you have to look at the 4seasons before that..... Now by the 4th consecutive it was boring haha but this year it's still wide open in a sense there's still 3 people involved 5races left and with 59 points separating the top 3 anything could happen you could say hamilton has got it and which he should but it's not over til it's over

You are both right - I am also worried about loosing the European races.

I love F1 but I think it has problems and Bernie's time at the helm is drawing to a close.

The manufacturers effectively bullied the sport into these new engines and I think some of the problems stem from that. They were supposed to be trying to cut costs (removing in season testing for example) but then came up with these hugely technologically complex engines that cost an absolute fortune to develop. They then restricted development so that if you were behind the game at the start of the year with your power you were pretty much for the whole season long. They (the engines) seem to have pleased no one. They sound terrible, the cars are slow, they have widened the gap in the field, they have narrowed the competition and the grid is slowly reducing. The spectators (who pay the extortionate entry prices) don't like them either. Listen to a GP2 car to remind yourself what a race car should sound like.

There are always going to eras in this sport where one team is hugely dominant - McLaren with Senna & Prost, Williams in Mansell's time, Ferrari with Schumacher, Red Bull with Vettel and now Mercedes with Hamilton. The only way to stop that is to put a power limit on every engine and then it will become much more about chassis and aerodynamic efficiency and driver skills.

That's another thing I can't understand hybrid engines to save money and to reduce the spending within a team and the sport but yet like you say they cost more where's the logic in that, they should cap the engine capability and It should even things up and I agree wth GP2 I was in belgium this year at spa with my wife F1 cars sound terrible which I believe is an improvement from last year pleased I didn't hear them then.

Is the premiership fixed ? Is the cricket fixed ? Is the rugby fixed ? What about horse racing ? The Olympics ? Wrestling ? speedway ? Dog racing ? The great British bake off ? X Factor ? Strictly come dancing ?

Just enjoy !

I'm sure you're mixing and matching arguments here.
Restricting development, testing, etc. was designed to reduce costs. For a variety of other reasons costs have actually increased
The hybrid engines are not cost related for the sport, but supposed to be more reflective of what manufactures and the motoring world is doing - smaller engines, higher mpg, hybrid tech, etc. and to feed down to road cars.

Sadly the result is as we all know in that we've achieved is horrible sounding cars, increased costs, tokens, complex rules, fuel flow limits, reducing grid and overall damage to what is the premier racing formula.

Can't imagine it ever reverting to screaming V8's, but that's progress :(

BTCC for me these days. Its a much more exciting form of racing and much more relate-able as a spectator. It also cost a shed load less to go and watch live.

Don't think Carlos Sainz thinks its fixed. It might be a bit dull but to get two or three teams within 1/10 sec is not going to happen all the time that's the nature of F1. Every team is pushing to for the extra 1/10 sec. Yes its full of rules but that's part of the game to beat the restrictions, loop holes even (cheating) without being caught that's were you get the best out of engineers / designers... Well the start should be good tomorrow Hamilton to pass Rosberg and onto victory with the rest 25 seconds behind. There might be some good racing between Ferrari and Williams you never know......

I am,was an F1 fan ,now Moto GP all the way for me .
If you want to see overtaking and wheel to wheel action this season as been brilliant.
Plus I am not a biker but I appreciate the talent (and balls) of the riders.

Mercedes definitely fixed the winner this afternoon!

They certainly made the strategy and denied change requests, such that it did not allow Lewis to try different things and have a chance of a win. They will claim it was to protect the 1,2 and all time points win, but made a boring finale (at the front)

That's exactly the same for me. MotoGP provides proper racing without the artificiality of DRS and I can't think I've seen a boring race yet.

MotoGP are loosing out by going to BT. Their fan base was not huge, its going to be smaller now. I have not watched a race since they went over. It is going the same way boxing went.
