Is Formula One fixed?

Singapore qualifying: how can Ferrari and Red Bull suddenly outpace the Merc powered cars and how can Vettel suddenly find over 1.4secs on Hamilton?

Perhaps even more interesting is Eddie Jordan's little snippet on BBC predicting Audi entering F1 in 2 years'
time with Stefano Domenicali at the helm and engine woes for McLaren. Marussia to get Merc engines and become the Mercedes equivalent of Toro Rosso and so on. Very interesting and he does have the annoying knack of being regularly proved right with his predictions when it comes to tem news.

Well
If it is fixed they spent more time promoting sponsors,
and put no effort into improving the actual racing.
Do they still overtake in F1 ?

I have to agree with Bumpy, if it is fixed they haven't improved the show. I used to be an avid viewer, but the last few seasons I have tuned out. Local racing at Castle Combe is far better, more action..

Ps they do overtake, but only when the others go in the pit lane.

F1 fixed. :o

It's a circus, think wrestling but more money.

As for the overtaking question. :tumbleweed:

I hope not.

Vettel is right, the Mercs are having problems with the tyres but I bet they will be better in racing than quali.

I don't think it's fixed at all. Different circuits affect the team's in different ways and the cars tolerences are so fine and matched that if something is slightly off you're going to lose time on the track. In Hamilton's case it was tyres.

Anyways I don't really care as I only watch it to oggle Suzy Perry.

Tim.

I don't think it's fixed, just dull as dishwater
:zzzz:
They've made it all to clinical, seems it's no longer about the racing, if someone does something exciting they get a time penalty.

You can tell those who don't really watch F1 when they claim there's no overtaking. There is now loads of overtaking - it might be slightly artificially generated through DRS but it's still overtaking.

i don't think it's fixed - if it was fixed why would they wait until 2/3 of the season was done before fixing it - stable door and shutting spring to mind. Unless of course you mean with regard to the recent engine supplier shenanigans? Make a Ferrari look great, persuade Red Bull to stay with Ferrari engines....that might be plausible.

The problem is Bernie wants to make as much ££££ as he can and to do that F1 needs to be a show that attracts the viewers/spectators. It would appear that people are getting fed up with driver domination (Schumacher > Vettel > Lewis) so to make the show a bit more unpredictable Bernie asks Merc to turn the wick down to allow the light to shine on other teams to keep more sponsors happy. What was double points for the last race in 2014 all about, if not to try to keep the show going for a full season with a gripping climax?

I guess it's plausible but so many unknowns - ie is the Singapore contract up for negotiation, are the Asian TV viewing figures good etc. Singapore of course was the venue for the notorious Alonso/Piquet/Briatore incident too so you may be right!!

The trouble with conspiracy/fixing theories is that they require an inordinate number of people to keep quiet and it only takes one to break ranks (e.g. Piquet in the 'deliberate crash' incident) and everything goes tits-up....

Hmm, in Jackie Pallo's book 'You grunt I'll groan' (try asking for that in your local library without smiling) you'll find that wrestling was fixed but still a hard mans game - true of F1 as well.

As for overtaking - just seen plenty of that in Singapore

Put it this way....

None of us at redbull have got a clue what engine we are designing the car around next year...let alone if VW are getting involved in 2018

But everyone's pretty keen for it to happen here!

Funny you should've mentioned VW and F1 prior to the news later in the week.

Apparently the underperformance of the Mercedes cars in Singapore is still an unsolved mystery. Anyone still care to claim the German company didn't pull its punches last weekend? :fuelfire:

Maybe the Merc's thought they were in emissions test mode!
