Is everyone happy with their car...?

With mine being booked into see BMW on the 17 the for some software related issues.
My software version is 07.2019 and I don't have the Spotify app installed on the iDrive. I believe Spotify doesn't come until software version 11.2019.70 upgrade? I was wondering if you currently have the Spotify app installed on your iDrive? I would also be interested to know if the dealer upgrades the software to 03.2020 which I believe is the latest version. From what I have read, this version upgrade should also sort out my software gremlins, so would appreciate your thoughts, especially if you notice any improvements to sound the quality from the Harman Kardon system.

Mine has Spotify, but I really want Tidal!

I've had my G29 30 since August and I'm slowly beginning to warm to it after experiencing a few issues - door\key fob problems, passenger side door lock failing, mirrors failing, alarm going off, rattles in the plastic dash, stones in the brakes and the usual system issues as experienced by many on here.

If there's one area that I'm still no sure about it's the handling on bumpy roads - I find it incredibly skittish when the roads are less than perfect and it seems you have to work hard to keep it in line. It's great on big sweeping A roads and on the motorway and the grip is great (even in wet weather).

At times, when scootling around the Peak District, it's been a relief to reach a smooth A road after spending time on some of the B roads in the area. On the minor roads my old TT was a much more enjoyable drive but on long distance jaunts the Z4 wins every time.

I’ve spoken to two dealers about issues in the car and they all relate to software gremlins. Mirrors not saving their positions, no Spotify, seat not moving to the correct position... engine stop/start not saving...the list goes on.
I’m running 07.2019 and Cotswold BMW said it should be on 12.19 as a minimum by now. The car says there are no updates available.

Let’s see what Guildford can do. Hopefully a software update will sort a lot of these bits. I’ll report back. The real cherry on top would be improved sound from the HK as well but I won’t hold my breath.

We appear to share the same family of software gremlins, I also had a load of additional software related issues when I opted to have my own profile, such as with mirrors not folding, ambient lighting colour kept setting to default orange every time the engine was re started so the list goes on, however, just the usual issues when I deleted my profile. My dealer had mentioned that BMW are still experiencing issues and delays with OTA software upgrades at the present moment in time :(

I've had one or two software glitches, folding mirrors etc. They seem to be very intermittent so difficult to demonstrate.

Not had any trouble with the fob batteries, still on the original one after a year.

Are you in sports plus mostly when in the Peak District bonzo or comfort...?

Good to know that the key fob battery problem is not common. Just need to find out why it’s happening with my car or get them to replace the two key fobs.

Comfort or Sport depending on the road - neither modes seem great on rutted\uneven roads.

Am I allowed to make a comment as I’m very happy with mine too, except I chose a used SL400 over a new M40i :D

A fine motor indeed Sars....for one I’d be interested to hear the main points of improvement over your 435 if you have the inclination.

Thanks John, I really liked the 435xd, it’s my longest car ownership and wash sad to see it go, loved the traction, the grunt and it was a fine car that weighed nearly two tonnes without the brakes to match. I think that was an issue, BMW seem to save money in the most peculiar ways.

The SL400 on the other hand is just in a different league, hell it’s a different game entirely, there’s no hard plastics to touch, thick, soft Nappa leather all around and not the thin stuff you pay extra for that wears quickly. The chassis and panels are aluminium, the boot is a mix of composite and carbon fibre. Dimensionally compared to the G29 the wheelbase is slightly longer (80mm), width and height are almost identical but it’s 300mm longer giving a bigger boot and cabin, that’s airy thanks to that glass roof, with useful cubbyholes behind the seats. The R231 is heavier than the M40i but 300 kg lighter the 435d, the glass roof, sound insulation and 65 litre fuel tank accounting for the extra mass. It is considerably quieter then the 435d, by 5 dBl to give 68 dBl @ 70 mph it is absolutely designed to cross continents with ease. Talking of which I drove back from Bristol last week with the top down at 73 mph and got 41.6 mpg. However handling is surprisingly good, helped by a short wheelbase and wide track, it’s no track star but entertains nonetheless and actually reminds me of the e85 just bigger, more comfortable and quieter.

Performance is good, stated 0-62 sprint is declared at 4.9s, though it certainly feels quicker than that, From my test drive of the M40i, I didn’t feel that it was significantly quicker than the 435d, whereas the SL400 did both driven back to back. Both the M40i and the SL400 have the same 500 Nm of torque whereas the Mercedes is a 9 speed auto against the 8 in the BMW, first gear in the SL400 is only used in sport and sport+ where you also get all the noise from the Biturbo V6, both cars have that wonderful bark on startup. As for one thing my car has is adaptive cruise with autopilot so it will steer and brake for you, it’s just annoying that it shouts at you when you don’t keep your hands on the wheel :D

If I could post pictures I would post some here

Oh I had forgotten to mention those. Yes, I have the ambient lighting issue. The mirrors not folding in when you lock the car.
Volume of the stereo always set to the lowest setting. We were fobbed off by the ‘Connected’ team telling us to reset the head unit and that would sort it. What rubbish.

I’m hoping a visit to the dealer will mean they update the software for us and get rid of a lot of these problems.

Funnily enough, I’ve just looked at the BMW Connected app on my phone. It says the car is unlocked, the boot is open and the drivers window down. What tripe. It’s fully locked and everything is closed, tucked up in the garage. :|

My connected app hasn't updated for over a week now, a fault which is well documented on other forums and not related to the cars software on this occasion.

Overall very happy with it, Before always had coupés and have to admit that this roadster is nice to.
No problems so far except for mirrors behaving strange (lot better after modifying setup so car want open anymore when key is nearby, have to manually touch the door now) and annoying when you wash the car when you have your keys on you (doors open, close, open again,...and alarm goes off when using high pressure).
Besides this still love it 😄

Absolutely love my 2.0i sport. Like I’ve said before, in a different league to my e89. All works fine but remembering this is the second G29 I’ve had. The first one was bought back by BMW due to a persistent fault with iDrive in which it would regularly all switch off leaving no display at all a d after 6 visits, they couldn’t fix. Hence a new car!! Was very impressed with the service I received from Sytners and the new car has worked perfectly.

Happy with mine as well. its not the daily drive but split between 2 cars. loving the roof down when the weather is good and i think it has a nice premium interior. A couple of minor issues but no trip to the dealer yet as they are minor.
Only negative point is maybe i should have bought the M40I !!!
