Is anyone else NOT into detailing?

I have never been obsessed before owning this car. Quick wash, dry and the occassional polish. However I am being sucked in just a little - I'll never have the time to detail properly, and I am also not that great at patience / art :thumbsup: - so I am becoming careful about how I wash the car, what with, and doing things like waxing for the first time. But it won't become obsessive. Honest :wink:

Yeah, but note the art statement and my recent post in the detailing forum - I have warned myself off being too adventurous today... :)
 
I like reading how others detail, but not into it myself. My car gets cleaned when it's dirty, maybe once a month? As for the two bucket technique, I still don't even know what it is! I only own one bucket anyway.

One for rinsing ,one for soap/etc -stops/reduces grit getting put back onto the cars paint.

That just about sums up my car cleaning too.

Not for the purists...but when my Micra lease car went back last year I had to use Cillit Bang on the wheels :o

They did come up looking nice :bag:
 
I must admit I sometimes feel that I neglect my Zed :?

Every three weeks or so I take it to my local Polish car wash where they attack it with a pressure washer, and about every four washes or so they do the hood too, when they fail to understand my request to keep the top dry :headbang:. I do love it so much more when it's clean, but my daily commute is a 50-mile round trip on back roads, so it looks like a tractor by the time it gets to work on Monday morning!
 
I'm the same as z4chris above... travel on back roads to work often, so gets covered in mud... My bf washed it for me yesterday as it was truly filthy, but of course it got covered again today :( Do use good detailing stuff on it when it does get washed (poorboys etc) and my bf owns a PC, so hopefully in the summer it'll get done properly. I normally clean it myself, but we did a deal yesterday.. I made him cakes for washing the car (it was far too dirty for me to want to do it myself :rofl: )
 
I clean the Mrs's car for the love of it. I don't like a scruffy car. The BF will probably not be able to bear a filthy zed anyway. (Unless you are just wanting an excuse to eat cake.) Don't be tricked into baking cakes,
 
The big problem I can see with being a detailing freak is that after you've put all that work into producing a spotless, highly polished work of automotive art, you're reluctant to drive it 'cause it'll be dirty in a matter of minutes.

Torn between the lure of the road and obsessive cleanliness.

Oh what a precarious ship we sail, when first we practice to detail!

There nothing more satisfying seeing your car absolutely gleaming, better than when it came out of the factory. Then getting it filthy enjoying driving it then doing it all over again. I find it strangely therapeutic gets rid of all life's worries.
 
Mine lives outside 24/7 and is used all year round,so I cannot allow myself to get too precious about it.Every spring It gets a good claying ,polishing with cheapo halfrauds polisher, but good polish ,followed by a good coat of carnauba wax.I polish and wax it again just before winter and it looks great all the time.It's also black :roll: so that's enough of a cross to bear without getting anal about detailing.
 
Mine is garaged and not a daily driver but I do have a dilemma between driving it or keeping it garaged on a rainy day

Haven't done any real detailing but always try and kep it clean. I don't polish it often enough though
 
It is definetly something that is intensive to do propely. Took me a good 3 days to do every inch last time. Saying that it was December and it was dark by 4 and it kept raining :x. But worth it :thumbsup:
