Is a back box enough for nice sound?

Definitely top end on mine.
Also on an m3 it's a far more sensitive engine so I'm not surprised at the loss

What kind of exhaust are we talking about or just a straight back box chop?

Have you got a sound generator and removed the foam?

Yeah done that before I had exhaust. Then I stuck the foam back in after exhaust was done.
Exhaust noise is way better than induction

Power claims are at the crank, right? Not necessarily the (rear) wheels - rwhp as you'd call it - it all seems a bit false from time to time - power claims are surely just a marker, a bit like when Donald Trump said the money didn't matter, it was more just a method to keep score. The comb-over b*stard.
Especially when you start thinking about the air fans they use on a rolling road, some %age adjustment to make the owner feel good - sorry, to make it more realistic I meant - and the complex shafts, gearbox, more shafts, rubber etc...
Power is relative - just go for the sound you like.

I'm definitely more towards the noise, but it was a little embarrassing when an e36 and an e46 made their claimed power in standard form

Still need to get a decent video of my simota filter doing it's thing. It's loud, but sounds fantastic. Better than boy racer exhaust noise

Im hoping retaining a back box will provide enough back pressure not to lose power, I know the one I had on the Supra was very free flowing ( was too free flowing tbh, it was for a turbo car and mine was NA) so that's probably why it lost a bit of low down grunt.

Its hard to find anything for sale other than Remus and Supersprint, and they are both around £580.

Well all I can find online for sale are remus and supersprint back boxes. Both around £580. Seems miltek don't make one any more.

There might be eisenmaan out there but they are stupid money.

I have a power flow on mine, it is the exact tone I wanted, no droning at all...

Yeah but normal healthy 3.0's are 80bhp up, so take gav's readout with a pinch of salt.

I'd show you some tyre smoke anytime johnny

How much did it cost you at Powerflow if you don't mind me asking? Was thinking about using them myself.

Gti's do nothing for me haha.
I'm going for either an M3 or subaru wrx sti blobeye preferably a WR1

It's going to make way for R32 all being well

Subaru  Good cars but you gotta go E46 M3

Yeah I'd get an r32, tempted by some of the deals about for the R at the moment too.

I'd just love a flat 4 turbo though! E46 m3s are looking dated now and there's only 1 I want. It has to be a manual Laguna seca blue coupe!

Why don't you try a flat six with two turbos in a z4 ?

Not true. Back pressure at low rpms is the main reason why your car is able to idle. The pulses of the exhaust gases as they leave each cylinder cuse hharmonics in the pressure of the exhaust manifold, and draw out the gas from the other cylinders. This is an essential part of n/a tuning, and is precisely why people spend small fortunes on beautiful balanced exhaust manifolds, rather than having a dirty bit of scaffold pipe welded onto the end of the exhaust ports...

With turbocharging or supercharging, the requirement for harmonics in the exhaust manifold back pressure is negated, so yes in these applications you need as little as possible.

195bhp was supercar power in the late 80s/early 90s , E30 M3 , Sierra Cosworth, Lancia integrale all made around that from the factory
What motor have you in mind to move to Gav ? Could be a very nice MK5 GTi with a Milltek fitted up for sale soon , easily get around 250 from that

Id just Ilike to add that my 4wd Sierra Cosworth was pumping out 225bhp from the factory in 1992,
that was replaced with a 1992 2.5lt Mark III Toyota Supra turbo with 280hp standard
Hardly "Super Car" either if you think the Ferrari F40 pushed out 471hp.
:poke:

Has anyone got footage of the MM bypass?

Does it drone at all?

(Just checking before I get a cat back system) :)
