Hi guys,

So ive had my M for a few months now and bought an ipod to plug into the stereo; Trouble is, i keep forgetting to unplug the thing and it drains charge by the time i get back into the car. Is there any plugs / interfaces i can use to keep the ipod plugged in and permanently on charge or to switch on / charging when i turn the ignition on?

What do you guys use?

So ive just bought one of these:

I have Intravee/Alpine KCA-420i with the wake-up mod (http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=47988), and it charges my 80gb iPod fine, it's never dead. If I want to use that to charge my iPhone 6 I use this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scosche-Passport-Charging-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B001HN6CVA

with a lightening adapter:

Hope some of that helps

Thanks, i think what i've bought should do the same as the Scosche adapter, all being well it should charge my Nano :-)

I believe that the Scosche adapter is purely for moving the 5V charging point to allow later models of iphone/ipod to get charged, whilst also acting as a pass-through for data. It won't help with the discharging if you leave the iphone/ipod connected up when you leave the car.

The linked mod from markos is the only way i know to wakeup the ipod/iphone. Mac (mac27040) on the forum has done this a number of time IIRC

I suspect you're right and that continual discharging will eventually damage the battery but in theory as long as its getting power from the car when driving, regardless of having any charge - it should still work. I might have to switch it on but at least i wont have to keep taking it out the car to charge ;-)

The alpine mod is all you need. It's not that the battery drains, just the unit goes into a deep sleep. I've done a couple, it's not that hard to do.

Yep, fairly easy mod as long as you have a steady hand and a soldering iron with a fine tip
