iPod adapter and iPhone

I'm trying to get my iPhone 3GS working with the BMW iPod adapter. It plays music but without playlist control and doesn't charge.

Has anyone tried/got one of these http://store.apple.com/us/product/TS696LL/A or have another solution?

I've got the Scosche Passport for charging my iPhone 4 when I use it with the Intravee. Works fine albeit it's a bit bulky and doesn't fit the phone without removing the bumper. That's not an issue with your 3GS though.

Thanks sounds like it does the job then. I use my iPhone as a satnav so really need to get it charging. It does look a bit bulky but I was thinking of putting the Scosche in the glovebox and using a dock extension cable to the iPhone.
