iPhone snap-in adaptor

Where does the snap in cradle go then? Anyone got a pic, but im the same have an iphone 4! Need a decent cradle, although i dont really have to get it out my pocket :D

First You need Factory fit Bluetooth and I am talking pre 2009 Z4 can't help with new Z4
there is a " box" in the drop down arm in the back panel .the snap in is a customised holder that gives power and an antenna link and fits into that box.
BMW so far only have a 3G/3GS cradle ,we will have to wait for them to engineer the iP4 one .( the cradle is universal across all BMWs with factory fit BlueTooth)

I called BMW today and they said that I have factory Bluetooth.

I turn on the ignition and search but cannot find anything, am I doing anything wrong?

Anything in the drop down arm?

Is there a communications systems manual in you documents and a sheet giving the pairing code for the car

you need to pair your mobile phone with the cars bluetooth before you can start using it, which is done by activating the bluetooth's pairing mode. Can't remember off the top of my head how its done, but i think you need to press the button in the centre drop down arm for 3 seconds... then switch the ignition to location 3... hold for further 3 seconds and then let go. Its all in the documentation. Took me 5 mins to do last week!

have you the 4 digit pairing code for your car/vin
It will be on a sheet in the cars docs. and is hard coded into system
if not you will have to get it extracted by a Dealer or apparently it is printed on the side of the B/T module in the boot although I couldn't find it on mine
Do you have the manual , complicated to describe but simple if you have the book in front of you
Mikee is on right track

I havent got to that stage.

I have done numerous different techniques with no luck. Example:

1) Turn car on but not the engine on (position doesn't matter)
2) Press the R/T button just once
3) Radio says "Activate (pause) Phone (pause) Activate (pause) Phone" ... [I get NO PHONE]
4) Go to your phone, Do search for new device
5) Phone will find BMW##### (last 5 = last 5 of VIN)
6) Pair, follow directions for your phone, etc

When I hold down the speech button I get a bleep, then 'cancel'. If I press the R/T button as detailed above I get 'NO PHONE' on the radio display.

Could it be that I have the phone prep so that the phone is hardwired but no bluetooth? However BMW said it was bluetooth enabled.

The pairing code is part of the process If you don't know the code you will not get it work

You need the 4 digit code BEFORE attempting pairing .I will look out my manual and create a pdf of relevant page
but until you have the code you are going nowhere I am afraid (iirc code goes into phone during process)
if you want it pm me and I'll sort tomorrow

Works a treat but I didn't have my BT pin. I dont have it in my book. I tried looking at the rear of the unit in the boot but no code was on that too!

Can BMW tell me what it is?

i looked into 3g/s snap in adaptor and was told would need to fit new housing inside the hatch to accomadate the wider adaptor and re-code, stealer quoted £350 inc all parts and labour, so that ain't happening

ouch... £350 to, lets be honest, only charge your iphone in the car! too much... some people have managed to get the iphone 3g snap in adapter into the narrower 'housing' with a bit of diy effort. Might be worth trying!?

Apparently the code is on a sheet with the vehicle documentation .........but mine was missing too
So your Dealer has to put it on "the Computer" to extract the code ( as I described earlier hard coded into Bluetooth module)
Make a visit

I have just found out that the bt module has to be removed from the ULF to see the code. Might have a go:

Must admit I got as far as the module but as car was in for iPod connection and new box I decided to let them unearth the code
Again good luck ,its a pain that all previous owners seem to trash the code document may be they didn't use the B/T :?

@ wegras

Thanks for the PDF - After 3 months of trying i now have my iphone connected to my builtin bluetooth and its actually quite good with the sat nav screen hookup, can even have a conversation with the roof down doing 40mph+
