Just seen this on pistonheads, looks quite cool. You can basically start your car via an application on your iphone !. I know remote starts have been around for ages on clifford alarms etc, but this looks rather good..

Only seems to be in america at the minute, has anybody seen it available in the UK ?

That made the news over here last week and on http://reviews.cnet.com/iphone-atlas/. The only problem is that you also have to install the Viper Alarm which is about $500.00 (306.45 pounds). Not sure if the alarm is compatible with the Z4 though.

RumorS have it that there are issues with those that have a manual tranny

if its like the clifford alarms, it wont start if its in gear, is that what you are refering to ?

it would be good in winter, i have an outdoor cover over mine, i would be able to run car every week for 5 mins without having to take cover off

hopefully the uk launch won't be too far away then. I'd definitely buy that at £300.

btw, nice car Taz

cheers, first car i've ever bought brand new, its my weekend toy

As far as I remember it's illegal to remotely start a car in the UK, or indeed get out of it while the engine is running. I'm sure that's not applicable to on your drive, but I guess that's why our US friends have it and we don't.

Strange how they can start a car with no one in it but are not allowed to remotely close a soft top

My mates used to have the clifford Intellistart system on their jap cars, skylines, civics etc. It was pretty cool being able to remote start it from a distance. The doors would still be locked however the engine would be warming up. The link below shows part fo the system, however i believe you need to have the entire cliffird system instaleld rather than just an add on.

On the iphone though, it would be seriously cool.

can you send it a message to come and pick you up? Do you have to call the car Kit?
Yeah, it can also make it dance like the car in the citreon advert.

More for your interest than any useful information but on my old 1-series with the key fob thing and the start button, if you put the fob into the dash and pressed the button to start it in the normal way then pressed the button again to stop the engine and removed the fob from the dash, if you then depressed the clutch and pushed the start button again within 15secs of removing the fob the engine would start up again without the need for the fob in the dash, this meant on cold mornings you could start your car and turn on the heater etc, get out and lock the doors and go back in the house knowing the car is locked on the drive, warming up nicely.
Quite a useful feature really but it seems virtually no one has heard of it.
Obliviously this post has no relevance to this topic or the z4, HTH
