iPhone / iPod

I've just taken delivery of a 2007 Z4M, with Sat Nav, and it has a BMW installed iPod lead in the glove box.

If I plug in an iPod, all works fine, and the head unit operates the iPod, albeit, a little basically, but I can live with that.

However, if I plug in my iPhone 3G, I get a yellow triangle warning on the iPhone, saying that there is a compatibility issue with the charging, and the iPhone won't operate at all. I understand that there is a charging difference between old and new iPhones i.e. 5v against 12v and that you can buy adaptors, however do these adaptors just convert the charge, or do thay offer full iPod capability. If so, does anyone have the name, or web link to a suitable converter that will work with the BMW installed iPod lead.

In addition, other than using one of the Intervee devices, can the facorty BMW fitted iPod lead, display Track and Artist info on the Sat Nav screen ? Or do you have to wire in an Intervee device separately.

The converter just allow your to charge the iphone
AFAIK you need an intravee or DICE unit to display MP3 names on the nav screen (go for intravee if you do!) - though i would allow somebody else to confirm about the BMW ipod interface

I've got the BMW iPod connector and it works with my iPhone 1G. I don't have the Sav Nav screen so I can't answer that piece. We got an adapter (can't remember the manufacturer) to charge my girlfriend's 3G but haven't verified if it works for sound as well. Will check on it in the next couple of days and let you know.
