iPhone digital key

HI hoping for some help. recently managed to get all the updates done at the dealer, can anyone help with the digital key I have an iPhone 13 and when I go through the idrive settings then on to the digital key setting it say place device on to the tray but nothing happen and then it times out. checking the my bwm also has nothing ref digital key. Thanks

Steve, this is something I only set up recently.

Mine doesn’t work by just placing in the tray. I had to go into my wallet on the phone, pick BMW key then it worked no bother. HTH

Depending on when your car was manufactured you might have the ultra wideband which means you don’t need to take your phone out your pocket. If you don’t have that, you need to activate it on your bmw app and then select it everytime you want to use it.

Think you need to activate it first in the car maybe? Did you receive a credit card key with the car? If you didn’t then maybe you don’t have digital key. Do you have wireless charging?
My car due to parts restrictions doesn’t have digital key.

Digital key is standard I believe in all BMWs.

Nope, you need comfort pack to have the comfort access.

I looked into this. Any z4 manufactured prior to June 2020 won’t have the option for keyless entry via iPhone
It became a standard feature on BMWs manufactured after June 2020
You can still use those credit card keys on the ones prior to that with comfort access. It’s just it won’t work with the phone (hence why you’ll find the app won’t offer the option as it’ll know)

I just picked up my car and got both keys and the card. Within an hour I got an email from BMW showing how to set up my Digital Key.

If the Lock "button" as circled doesn't work, you might want to have the service department look at it.

Set it to lock when you walk away and it should lock.

I had a weird issue today with the car not recognizing me on approach and then saying a key could not be detected when I was in the car.
