Iphone connectivity

Can anybody help me get straight to a solution for iphone connectivity in an 03 Z4 ?

If you think I am being lazy not searching through threads you are right I am,..don't waste any typing giving me a lecture :)

I also have an 03 z4. I am considering the dension gateway 100 or the BMW option. I am more inclined to go with dension as I have owned 2 in the past. Be aware that things are more complicated if you have the dsp amp or nav already installed. The dension will be around £135.

I'm already confused. :(

Can anyone tell me about something they bought and easily fitted ?

Do a google search for dension gateway 100. It is a module that plugs in to the cd changer socket at the back of the stereo, you will lose the use of you cd changer though.

Is it really as simple as that,..unplug CD changer and plug in the Iphone connector ?

Has anybody done this with no hassle ?

Sorry, i assumed that you just wanted the ipod function of the iphone like i do. If you want to also be able to make calls using Bluetooth as well as using the ipod functionality then you are looking at something like the Parrot MKi9200.

Hopefully someone else will pitch in that has done this before.

From what i have read on this forum, it is simply plug and play with no coding required. I take it you dont have Factory Sat Nav installed and you do not have a factory fitted amp (box in the boot next to the battery), if so then it should just be plug and play. If you are unsure what to do then why not ask a Local Car Audio shop to recommend and install it for you, I plan to get a Dension at some point but dont have the funds just now. My 03 Z4 doesn't have Sat Nav or the Amp so that makes things simpler.

I do have factory Sat Nav. I don't know what a factory fitted amp is :?

Whats the consequence of me having factory Sat Nav ?

Sorry Bob, this post is for "ferrelscent" :) my bad

The Apple Store is your best bet. They sell a device that plugs right into your cigarette lighter it has a flexible and a mounting platform for your iPhone. You need to ask them about operation etc. they are always very helpful. Do spend the money yo park and the time to check it out. BTW I don't have the time to check any further for you I am on a road trip across America.

Cheers,

I don't think you will have a problem with Nav it's the DSP that can cause issues if you have it.

Look in your boot where the battery is, if you have DSP you will see the amp next to the battery.

OK sorry for being thick, but what is DSP ?

Rolf,..or anyone else who can answer,..if I get one from Apple that plugs into the cig lighter,..that sounds fine for power, but what about getting the music to the stereo ?

Go to a dealer and get a quote for the iPod connector kit , cable goes usually into the glove box & connects through the 6x Changer connection BUT you have to set up 1-6 playlists
to see the info on H/U ( Head Unit ) (( Radio ))

Not ideal and circa £300 but it is BMW 's solution

ps The dealer will ensure the kit matches your car build ( ie fitted Sat Nav )

I think he's talking about one of the FM trasmitter kits. It's powered from the cig lighter and you just choose a frequency for it to broadcast. Tune your radio to the frequency and it should work fine! I've got one in my car at the moment and it's good enough but I'm looking for something a bit more integrated.

To be honest I don't think he knows what he is looking for
TO THE OP
Be a little clearer about the solution you are seeking and you will probably get more constructive responses

"iPhone connectivity"

Take three guesses what that means. Do you think I want to connect an iPhone to ..

1) The exhaust system ?
2) The fuel pump ?
3) The stereo ?

Sorry I can't offer you a prize if you get it right.

The other guys thanks for the constructive advice. I've tried FM transmitters before but find it hard in London to find quiet bandwidth so music gets interupted a lot.

It sounds like the dealer route is the best option. I just hate giving them my cash.

I wish i could help you more but with you having Nav i am not sure what the best set up is for the Nav cars, the dealer may be the best option for you or a Dension. Either way you need to speak to someone who knows what your setup is and knows what to advise, I would shop around different dealers and make sure you have a note of your last seven digits of your Vehicle Identification Number. Passing the dealer the Vin will make it easier for them to see what your car already has fitted.

I had my E60 hooked up with ipod connectivity through the iDrive, it was outstanding quality and the best integration i have ever seen. With you having nav you should get a really good setup for being able to see Artist title etc. Good luck getting it sorted out.

Thanks.

I'm still dithering on this. I just spent £500 on bodywork... So I might just buy an itrip for now and muddle through with that while I save up for a proper set up. I didn't realize it could be so expensive,... But when I do spend I want to do it properly.

Ps I think I worked out what DSP is. I am guessing digital sound processor, sort of like a graphic equiliser. And I do have that,.. It's in my main screen menu.

Ok, then you are best to go with the Dealer, but do shop around different dealers and provide the VIN. The DSP means that you will need an Analog to Digital converter but the dealer can advise you best.

Let us know how you get on.
