After 30 months my iphone4 has died and i am having to get a 5 on monday.I resisted the 4s because i didn't care about siri and was also unimpressed by the 5 but needs must i suppose.Has anyone gone from 4 to 5 who can give me some real benefits that i may get from it?

ive just got a 5.....
but this is my first smartphone...so im not answering your question at all....but its good....
the battery lasted half a day this morning but i was playing on it trying to set it up...

Do what I've just done when my mic packed in on my iPhone 4. Take it to the apple shop, you can get a replacement one (aka a reconditioned one but it looks brand new and comes with a 90-day warranty) for £119. Much cheaper than upgrading to a 5 especially as it doesn't do anymore really than the 4 does.

Too late as i am committed but at least the 5 was free

I've got one (albeit upgraded from a BB Torch and an iPhone 3gs)

As stated in nearly every review, there's no difference as such aside from the extra screen real estate which I must admit is great for movies, videos and games.

Compared to my 3gs it's better in every way shape and form. Camera isn't bad too (even though I have my slr with me everywhere I go)

Just be aware that if you plug your 4 into such things at a i-phone/i-pod dock the connector is different, so you will need either an adapter or new cabled altogether. Think the 5 has whats called a lightning connector???

i uped from a 3gs and its brill... no complaints
That seems to be the common consensus.

I got an iPhone 5 at christmas after previously resisting the temptation and sticking with Nokias outdated Symbian OS on a N8 which I still think is a great phone and from a hardware point of view I still think is superior to the iPhone you just couldn't get ant useful Apps for it which makes my only regret not having done it sooner.

Though if I had, had and iPhone 4 or 4s not sure I'd have upgraded as the differences aren't big enough.

I went from iph3G - iph5, everything just works smoother and faster.
There's some slight changes but nothing bad, improved camera is a bonus. All my apps continue to work, plus now extra useful apps such as document scanning etc.

Only drawback is that I had a tomtom car adaptor with built in GPS for my 3g, but there isn't an item for iph5 so it's limited to aPGS at present.

iph5 is a lot lighter, so keep needing to check that it's still in my pocket

I went from a 4 to a 5. And despite what everyone says there is a real benefit for me. The camera especially at night is fantastic.

Siri seemed pointless at first, but walking with my headphones i can press the mic button and ask siri to read and even reply to my text, without getting the phone out of my pocket.

Same is true with the stock bt in my Z4... Press and hold and it will read and can reply to texts via the hands free.

New things which i dont care for: The extra screen size has no benefit, feels nice and light, but the old wasnt exactly heavy.

Things i dont like: new dock, had to get new cables, and does work with my home hifi - solved by buying a airplay dock... Play music over wifi.

Thanks,i will look forward to the camera improvements and will hopefully find a use for siri

I went from a 4 to a 5 and echo aquazi comments. The camera is excellent for a phone and a big improvement. Siri is good I have found it useful when quickly needing to find a train times etc. I do like the bigger screen it just makes things look even better. Biggest improvement is just the general performance my 4 had started getting very slow and next to 5 it showed.

My only dislike is I think it's to lite and makes it feel fragile but a good quality case sorts this problem. I don't think you will be disappointed if you liked your 4.

I recently went from the 4 to the 5 and IMO it's all good with no negatives...

+1 - I find its nothing radical but better in every way than the 4, bigger screen, thinner, lighter, quicker etc

Totally agree with what's been said, nothing totally revolutionary, but it's better in every way, when you pick up a 4/4S after using the 5 it feels slower, chunkier, and the screen smaller...

Also IMHO the feeling of fragility some people talk of is merely down to the light weight - it's more robust than the 4/4S due to the metal back. I use my white & silver 5 naked (iPhone, not me), its been dropped several times & still looks like new (although I gather that the black models have an issue with scratches showing much more than the white).

You won't regret the upgrade!
