IPhone 5 multi media on Idrive

just found as we were out shopping, I decided to stay in car parked up, listen to music by BT and remembered I had violet film
from iTunes which had been redeemed and transferred to my phone so I thought I would watch it 'Battleships' it was good
but my battery was running low so I connected usb apple cable to iphone and usb slot in centre console then my sound went
from the phone!!!, so I went into the idrive and reconnected iphone audio for BT to my amazement my sound whilst watching the film came
over my car audio system which made watching the film more enjoyable to view nice find I thought....

Yep, that's the extended Bluetooth thingy... Still, be better still if you could watch the movie and everything. I use mine ( I keep a handful of DVD"s in the car, comedy, movies etc) when I'm waiting for someone. I watched a good half of chicken run the other day in the car while waiting for a train to arrive.

Will the new Media adaptor (as long as you have SA6NF and SA6NR) for iphone 5 let you watch iphone iTunes movies and multimedia films on idrive screen... if so then yes it would be great
to watch it on the CIC :D are they out and if so what is the retail price :!:

My gut feeling is probably not - whilst the iPhone does have the capability to output a VGA signal over the dock connector - it would be a major change to the CIC setup in the Z4 to enable this.

However - it could be possible as a 3rd party mod, I've seen reversing camera mods for the Z4 which show the camera feed on the CIC display which uses the analog video input of the CIC controller. If you could rig up a cable that converted the iPhone VGA output into the correct analogue video format for the CIC, then you could get the video up that way - but it would highly experimental.

From research SA6NF has the output with using switchable usb/aux socket (depends which one you have) with SA6NR (from factory) the cable to the CIC, the CIC only has 3 video inputs; EBA 01 29 2 295 713 retrofit cable is 61 12 2 295 390 (£20 from dealers) so you might need to check if your usb/aux connector has the second connection, if you were going down that path for the use of BMW Apps SA6NR, nice ipod/iphone music screen full width of CIC and media adaptor which is only available for previous iphones; and enabling code FSC £175 65 90 0 22 19 127 to function. Question is do you need the media adaptor for iphone 5 for it all to work.

Is this a another iphone 5 media edition (adaptor) 84 21 2 348 584 with 84 21 2 338 568 on back of adaptor....

Anyone got SA6NR working to its full capabilities with video from iphone 5 to CIC screen with just the usb/aux

Mharv - you seem to have a lot of knowledge about the CIC and these parts, where did you get your information from? I've been thinking about doing something with the video inputs of the CIC for a while - but couldn't find any concrete documentation.

apparently the iphone 5 implementation has no use of analogue vga inputs so if you had previously iphone 4 and video out worked it will not for iphone 5 until bmw get a new media adaptor in place, so a lot of SA6NR is disabled or not functioning for a better word

CIC is current for E89 and only one... newer cars (not E89) will have touch screen I believe.
Supersebbo I can send you stuff depends on your car and options... if you have CIC I some info on inputs...

CCC is on older cars, and is DVD driven for navigation etc. CIC is what we consider newer iDrive and is on ALL current BMWs albeit there is a slightly newer version in the latest F series. None are touch screen and I've not heard any plans from BMW to make touch screen implementations. The newest version does have touch pad input on top of the iDrive dial for entering script (numbers and letters/handwriting) much like Audi have had for some time.

How to determine which base plate (eject box) you have in your car...
Base can be verified by taking off the cover plate then look at the connections around aerial connector 18 pin are plastic
for SA6NF the same location will be two gold plated pin housings then you know you have SA6NF option at a glance...
therefore a good start then if looking to retrofit to SA6NR ....
