iPhone 5 16Gb - O2

Have you tried bluffing and saying that you want to cancel the contract to see if they can "magic-up" an iphone 5 from somewhere?

Doubt it would work - the bloke I spoke to said he was due an upgrade and could not get one for himself either.

I can put it through my Ltd company - anyone know if there is better stock for business users?

Thankfully I'm wating until February when I have 2 iPhone 4's up for renewal. Hopefull the hype and dodgy first batches shoudl be gone and I can just walk in and get them. Well that's the plan...

I ended up going to Carphone Warehouse. Was due an upgrade so wandered into local O2 shop. They were also out of stock on all sizes and couldnt match CW deal as Apple used them as launch partner, so you may have more luck there. Or order directly from O2.com. Says 2 weeks delivery but usually few days.

I reckon 4s's will be fine for the next two years. I know plenty of people happily running 3GS's at work with no problems on iOS5 and that must have been launched 5 years ago? The 4s has only been out a year so it's got loads of life left in it yet. I don't plan on changing my 4 either for a good while yet.

...O2 were selling the iphone4Gs upgrade at the SAME cost of the iphone5 upgrade, so I guess apple are in some ways not differenciating too much, although could be reverse phycology fooling people into buying 4gs stock because of few 5s available...

So assuming you could get your hands on one I'd be second to recommend iph5, for me:

iPh5 cons - lightning connector 30pin change - need to get adaptor for my 3 existing dock appliances, O2 nano sim activation took 3 days elasped time,

iPh5 pros - speed of operation compared to iph3 was night/day, all existing apps work including TomTom app, supposed no antenna issues / better reception, 8MB camera is good (using the doc scanner app today very useful), supposed 4G ready (when it comes out)

My other half has a 4g and it compares well, except for the 5MB camera...

But for example, the Panoramic camera feature is only for iPhone 5 and I am sure that new "bits" of software will only be targeted for that as well, hence being reluctant to select a phone which is out of the production main stream.

No, the panoramic camera feature works on 4S with IOS 6 installed. I know this for a fact cos I do it on mine!

Orange & T-Mobile share their networks and are creating EE which will offer 4G later this month (in some places).

The iPhone 5 will work with their 4G signal.

O2 and Vodafone are also going to be sharing their signals and when they offer 4G IT WONT WORK WITH THE iPhone 5 cos its on a different frequency that the phone doesnt support.

Will that be an issue? Possibly not, cos by then the 5s etc etc might be out that may deal with that, but its why I'm thinking of Orange...although I'm in North Devon so it will be ages before 4G comes here.

O2 are kindly saying that if you buy a 5, when their 4G is live they will let you buy your contract out (with 10% discount) and start a new contract with a compatible phone!

Ok, I did not know it worked on the 4s as I have the 4 where it does not work.

In the mean time, I still can't get hold of two phones :D

I think they are saying that the difference benefit between a 4S and a 5 is not much, whereas between a 4 and 5 it is more.

Our local 2 Orange shops (yes - two Orange shops within 100 metres!!!) have posters up saying iPhone 5 in stock, although I dont know what colour/capacity.

Do you have an Apple store near you? I think you can check stock and reserve the night before.

I'd definitely go for a 5 over a 4S - worth the upgrade on handset alone, plus the difference in used value vs new in future makes more economic sense too...

I upgraded to white iPhone 5 32gb with O2, £299, 26/mth, 600m, unltd txt, 1GB data, sold white iPhone 4S 16gb unlocked, decent but used condition, £340 on ebay, quids in!!

Got one on order now, 32 Gb. Comes from Carphone warehouse as per O2 website, delivery under three weeks.

How come my daughter wanted it and it ended up on my credit card ...

Hmm, phone was delivered today. So much for 3 weeks delivery time :D

I got a 32gig iPhone 5 from Carphone Warehouse last Sunday I just walked and they said they had them in stock. I was told a 16gig would take 1-2 weeks to arrive.

Previously I had a 4 and can say I'm happy with the 5 it's noticeable faster then my 4 and I like the new bigger screen even if its not the biggest screen out there. The one thing I am really surprised at is how light it is. If you like apple phones and have a 4 I'd upgrade if you have a 4s I'd probably wait abit.
